ISO Flame OR Transformer Grips
Trying to decided btwn the 2 styles & figured alot of you guys have these grips? Like the Flames grips to fit with the paint work and are a little cheaper then the transformers.
Never replaced grips before how are they removed?

Cut the stock ones off and pop the caps. Get all the glue off. Make sure and do a couple dry runs before glueing new ones on. Leave a small gap on the throttle side so it doesn't rub or stick. I have the flames with bullet ends and a transformer blade on the throttle.

Do you cut them off with a razor knife slicing down the length and peel it like a banana??
Are the ends counter weights and do they really help?

Yes. They come off fairly easy. Yeah the bullets are end weights and do cut the vibration down on long rides.

So after I peel off the skin there is a tube it's adhered too that just pops of leaving the bars?
Then don't use the tape but glue ??
I will get the counter weight since you said it does make a deference !

Yes the left side will be the bar and the throttle side will be a plastic tube. Yes glue.
I'm off to work so I will talk to you later.

So, I take it these grips require using the underlying base stock grips versus removing the entire grip assy and sliding new grips onto the bare bar?

I didn't cut my grips to get them off, took end cap off left grip..slid screw driver between handle bar and grip.. sprayed W-D 40 in there.. worked my way around the inside of the grip .. came right off. On the throttle side I just took the cover lose .. unhooked the throttle cable.. grip just slid off, throttle sleeve still in grip.
New grips came with built in cable hook ups( at least the ones I have did)
I just didn't feel the need to cut up a decent pair of grips.. might need them again one day.. and Honda sure wouldn't give you a set of grips!
GOO-gone Cleans the glue real well.
If the new grips have set screws , you don't need glue for install.
Mark your cable on your linkage incase you need to get some slack to hook up the new throttle grip... and then you can set it back without guessing..

Ditto, I didn't see the need to waste the grips. Remove the end caps, flathead screw driver and wedge it between the rubbber, spray some wd40 and let it sit a minute and repeat until you can run it all around. Then slide then off. Rubbing alchool also takes the goo off.
