I would imagine that another factor could be tire pressure.

Good point Tony . It does make a difference and the manufacturer's specification includes tire pressure.
The rear tire should be measured with 41 PSI COLD

#2 = Stock 6¼" rim / 240 tire = ?
#3 = Kosman 7" rim / 240 tire = 216mm or 8.5"
#4 = Sumo 8½" rim / 250 tire = 254mm or 10"
#5 = Kosman 7" rim / 260 tire = ?
#6 = Sumo 8½" rim / 260 tire = 248mm or 9¾" *

So it's looking like the sumo with 250 is the widest and cheapest option per mm.

It is also the only combo other than stock than uses the optimum rim width for the tire being used. Using the optimum designed rim width allows tire to mount at its rated width. It keeps the manufacturers designed profile for longest tread wear, best cornering and safety.

That's one thing I was not able to get my head around, why are people trying to squeeze a fatter tire on a skinnier rim, just to say they have a X size tire. I wou
D never try to do this with a car tire, why try for a bike.
