Default The stock air cleaner actually looks pretty good, no?

Well I bought an L&M adapter and found a good price on a spike but now I’m having second thoughts. I realize now that I’m actually pretty fond of the stock air cleaner and if I’m being honest, the only reason I’m considering replacing it is that it’s stock.

I know it’s plastic but it’s the only plasti-chrome piece on my bike that doesn’t have that funky blue-ish tint. The finish on it is actually pretty sweet.

Has anyone else struggled with this decision? Is the stock air cleaner really an air flow bottleneck that, if upgraded, will result in noticeably better performance? Just looking for a good reason beyond the ever-present desire to customize.

Confused.

You can Up-Grade the Filter element (K&N or ?) and leave the stock housing

yes it is a bottleneck. I noticed a big difference with my cobra intake. And I put it on 2 months AFTER my pipes and Fuel controller. I still noticed a big difference.

i like mine.........so far have resisted the urge to change..........they dont look like any other intake...........i put in a k&n filter...spent an afternoon drilling about a kabillion tiny holes in the front, and tried to make it look like an old buick grille or something LOL.................but the wind might blow a different direction tomorrow, but until i see something different i am not changing just to change.............yours will look great whatever direction you decide, these bikes rock...........................continued good luck.................t

Default Tripple the air flow through the stock air cleaner

I did some research when I put my spike air cleaner on as I wanted to avoid using a fuel controller. As you can see from the photo 2/3 of the air intake is blocked by a rubber plug, take it off and you'll get way more air through. So you have a high flow air cleaner for nothing!

I ended up making a restricter plate for the spike to bring the air flow back to stock and it works a treat.
