Guess What I'm Thinking...
First of all, yes, I've had a couple beers, and a shot or two of Tequila. Bear with me.
I get all fidgety waiting for parts to arrive and want to tinker with something, so I get out some easy-bend aluminum rod and make a concept into a study model.
Positioning seems good to me, maybe a little more forward, and put a larger radius on some of the curves... But if done with some 1"x1/4" flat bar stock, and adding a clutch cable fitting and an upside-down clutch lever at the top...

I'm going to pop off the shift pedal this weekend and start on the flat bar stock.
If I do it properly, I'll be able to switch back and forth between setups in 30 minutes. Once I get the lower part on the shifter arm duplicated I'll put the foot shifter back on until it's all fabbed and ready to test.

For the sake of aesthetics solid feel why not go direct to the lever on the transmission instead of through a redundant linkage? Your hand shift lever from the top is almost pointing directly to it. You could also make an extension for the transmission gearshift shaft through a drilled hole in the plastic chrome cover if you don't want to cut up that area .

That sounds like a good idea.

I'll have to play around... I don't want to do any cutting right now, simply because I have never ridden with a jockey shift. I figure I can build it and try it for a while, and if I don't like it, switch back without any trace of it having been tried.
If I really like it, I think it's probably a great idea to go straight to the transmission. We'll see how round 1 of the experiment goes.

I think that depends on whether it works and he survives the test ride lol.
