Just ordered a $16 eBay borescope out of Hong Kong. Probably take the best part of a month to get here but worth a try . It plugs into a laptop and the camera is only 7mm or 5/16" in diameter so it will easily pass through a spark plug hole. It has 4 adjustable LEDs surrounding the camera lens. If the above is a true image the resolution should be OK @ 640x480 pixels.
Arrived today, just loaded the software, selected English, designated a folder to save pics and plugged the bore scope into the USB port of a notebook PC. Quality is best on close-ups and good enough for most enclosed inspections.
Now that is something really cool. Can't believe its on $16. I can think of a hundred uses right of the top of my head where this would be very useful.
When I worked as a product engineer for Toyota back in the late 80s I had a $4K Olympus fiber optic bore scope at my disposal. Needless to say, although about the same size the probe was articulated and the attached camera had much higher resolution. Still, at 0.04% of the cost this unit gives serious bang for the buck . Short of an articulated lens unit I attached an opened coat hanger bent to shape for each tank shot .

I took a look for one of these scopes that came with Macintosh software but found none I don't have any PCs, never use them at home or work so I guess I'm out of luck.
