Never heard of zapping it with a welder. Reminds me of that car commercial, "Is this where I pour in the electricity?"

I had a Craftsman Cordless drill once and it died. I then moved up to the Ryobi. (I do have two dead batteries that I will try the welder trick on.) I thought the Ryobi's were great until I had a job that my drill just didn't have the umfh to pull it off. So a friend came over with his DeWalt. The DeWalt never even blinked.

So if I were to start from scratch and buy new cordless tools, I would go DeWalt (the heavy weight) but since I have many tools and batteries by Ryobi (the light weight) I will stick with them for cost reasons.

I still have the Craftsman (the Mattel kids tool) sitting on a shelf only because my wife got it for me on our 1st anniversary.

if you have a Ryobi tools just buy a new "P103 18-Volt Li-Ion Battery" it fits both new and old style tools. This battery works whole day long without recharging.
