Default kidney stones, who's had them

I was laid up over the holiday weekend with them and allergic reaction to some of the meds they gave me at the ER. Scheduled to see a uralogist this week to hopefully find out cause. I am a big time mnt dew drinker and dome say that causes them.

Any other forum members have them and was able to find cause. How many times you get them and how you make them stop?

I had them about 7 yrs ago. Kept feeling like I had to piss but couldn't then went to the urologist and he gave me pills ( something Flow) and said they will pass? Wrong! Felt like crap, started to turn yellow&pain! my wife took me to ER. Took Xrays and stones had shut down one of my kidneys, a few hrs later I was in surgery to have them removed The only good thing about that night was the Demerol Drip

There are many reasons people get kidney stones, hereditary, urinary tract infections, kidney disorders gout, vitamin D deficiencies and the list goes on. Best to seek medical treatment.

As far as preventing them, drinking more liquids-water is best. Someone who tends to form stones should try to drink enough liquids throughout the day to produce at least 2 quarts of urine in every 24- hour period. Diet plays a big roll, but lab testing needs to confirm this.

Had my first one last month. Sent me to the ER and they gave me a shot in the ass and told me it would pass in a few days. It turned out to be IMO the worst kidney stone "Jagged kind". Oh wait it's better, it took about a month before I pissed it out. I'm not sure the cause but, I drink MT Dew like it's going out of style. "Things that make you go humm".

And Richard, I am trying to increase my liquid intake. I plan on drinking two more Heinekens

OOOUUUUCCCHHHH! Brother I am sorry that you are going through this, my wife dealt with this a couple of years ago. Dr. gave her some pain med. told her when it wore off, get a six-pack of beer and flush out the stone.( Dr. Recommended of of course, but it seemed to work she got better) I would LOL but this ain't no laughing matter. Also I think you have to analyze the stone to know what formed it. And I was talking to an old timer the other day and he said if you eat 1 raw irish potato a day you will never have another kidney stone again.. he speaks much wisdom and plenty of old time experience... may be some good advice.
I believe my wife's was caused by those dang Monster energy drinks...anyway been thinking about you and your family lately.. wondering how everything is going... I'm still in prayer each afternoon for You, Your wife , and child.
I pray this stone passes soon.. in Jesus name. Amen.

I have had them twice now and drinking lots of pop will increase them forming also the meds they give me for the pain makes me sick so I suffer through them with out any kind of pain killers and I can tell it is the worst pain I have had. My doctor told me to drink a glass of orange juice a day the acid will help desolve them and help keep them from forming.

Cool

I've had them numerous times as a result of dehydration, Florida heat & not enough fluid intake while sweating resulted in calcified urine type of stone. Not fun at all & caffeine in coffee & MT DEW can also cause dehydration.

I feel sorry for you. I've had kidney stones (3 times now). The first time it happened I felt like I wanted to die. Never felt pain like it before. For the first time in my life I asked my wife to call an ambulance for me!

My research shows that there is no real cause for them. It also shows that in a 'pain' comparison kidney stones for men are a higher pain level than females giving birth (in some cases a lot higher!).

Once you've had kidney stones you will more than likely get them again (and again and again....). The best prevention for them is to drink plenty of water each day (like 2-3 litres each day). If you do get a kidney stone it is important to get prompt treatment for it so that it can 'pass' or be broken down (ultrasonic blasting). If they stay in the kidney too long they can cause permanent damage to the kidney.

Good luck with it!
