I just bought the Springfield XDs .45 and I love it. 5+1. It's barely bigger than my S&W Bodyguard .380. My friends picked on my little .380 but none of them would volunteer to stand in front of me and catch one out of the barrel. They both fit down the front of my pants where I choose to carry. The .380 has a safety on the slide for piece of mind. I haven't rode the Fury carrying the XDs yet, but I'm sure it will feel fine.

I like the xds. I looked at one and didn't buy on the spot. Came home to think about it for a day or two and when I went back to get it I found it had been sold. Springfield is actually hard to get around here as far as wait time or when the dealer will actually have one. If you see one you like better buy it on the spot

Carry the largest caliber that you can shoot accurately.
If you have narrowed it down to 9mm or 380, I would go with the 9. With "pocket pistols" being what they are now the size difference is negligible. I have a Kel-Tec PF9, conceals easily and shoot great. Can be hard on the hands shooting 9mm out of such a light and small frame pistol. Not something I will shoot 100rnds out of at a time. I paid around 280 (fees, tax, extra mag). I would also look into Kahr Arms, Berreta Nano, or S&W shield.

I picked up the Springfield xds .45 in august. Absolutely love this thing. I got myself a holster kit from old faithful holsters and put together an IWB holster and ride with it just fine.

I have the Bursa .380 and really like this gun, however, what I REALLY want, and am currently looking for (hard to find) is the Springfield XDs (.45) w/7 round mag.

Really not that hard to find. If you're looking for it to come with the 7 round mag then I can see it being hard to get one, but just about any gun store should carry the xds and the 7 round mags are all over the internet for about 30-40 bucks

380 or 9mm ???
Have you checked the gun stores for this gun? I've only looked online and they all say "Sold Out". I even stopped by Cabela's last week and asked if I could order one. They laughed at me and said, "No!" I went to the SAXET gun show in Austin this past Sat. and a few vendors had one or two early morning but they went fast and I missed out. In fact, watching the auctions, I've seen this gun go from $550 to well over $800 in just a month. But, I think I have finally found one. I should know by the weekend. Here's hoping.

380 or 9mm ???
JW,
You need to consider different factors here:
Why do you need the gun? For home protection or to carry?
For home protection go high caliber .40 and up, one shot for the kill chose ammo wisely when shooting at home so non hit the neighbors or adjacent rooms.
Fir carrying you need something small and can do the job at close rang so a 9mm will do.
As for the brands go to the store and try them see what best fits your hands and the weight is something to consider.
If they have shooting lanes try some of the guns they have available try different caliber to.
I like beretta.
Beretta storm .40, tactical accessories.
