'bout had it
On the way to work this morning, fuel light came on at 82 miles....had 11 to go to get to a gas station. Made it, put 3 gallons in it. Went to start it and nothing....hit the starter again and it started. But the tripometer reset itself to zero. I have a brand spanking new Shorai battery in it....this shouldn't be happening. Not happy. Literally going to check out a used Gold Wing tomorrow - if I like it, I'm trading my fury.

I'm still on my factory battery... I don't understand these battery problems folks are having. Did you have the dealer look at it by chance?
Maybe there is a short somewhere which is draining the battery? Or the generator/alternator isn't doing what it is supposed to be doing.

Thanks for the suggestions Eric, no haven't had a dealer look at it. Frankly, tired of having to contend with it. Love the feel and sound of the bike, but not the other stuff. I'll check my electrical connections tonight and see what I can find.
Dang fuel pump problem about did me in. I want something that is reliable and that I don't have to keep checking out. The Gold Wing I'm gonna look at is a 2005 with only 9000 miles on it. I searched the net last night to see if any inherent problems with them and found that the 2005 and earlier models had a propensity to overheat at parade speeds. Since I ride in the PGR funeral processions, that could be a potential deal breaker. I know there are "fixes" for it, but I'm tired of having to fix stuff and really don't have the money to throw around on it. I'll do a little more research and see what's up, but I am gonna go check the bike out tomorrow.

Ex, thanks, I'll check it. I doubt if the controller has a bad ground though. I have the wire grounded under the seat where the other wires ground into the frame. I'll check the controller connections. I'll take the negative battery cable off and hit it with some steel wool and tighten the heck out of it. Sure do appreciate everyone's help/suggestions.

Damn, sorry to hear that. You must have bought a cursed Fury. I still get the "slow to start" issue at gas stops, and only once had the odo reset issue.
As a matter of fact, I stopped to buy a bottle of water this morning. When I came out and hit the button, it cranked once and stopped, but I left my thumb on the button this time and it went ahead and started. This is still my original battery. I'm glad I didn't go ahead and buy another battery, because apparently, the battery is not the problem.
It's never let me down. It always starts with the second attempt if not the first, so I guess I'm doin' ok.
Well, I can't blame you for wanting to get rid of it. I'd be frustrated as hell if my bike was having all those problems. Seems like quite a jump from the Fury to the Gold Wing though. LOL You don't maybe want to look at some VTX1800's before you go to the old man bike?

Definitely a connection issue.
The only times the trip ODO resets to zero automagically are when you disconnect the battery or the complete speedometer.
You cannot go to another bike ... then you'll leave the Forum ... then who will be left to rattle my cage?

Yeah, funny thing, I still use my original oem battery to boost and run things....it's really still going strong. Spent megabucks on the Shorai and the bike has started dragging.....hopefully, it is a connection issue, but, once again, I have to "check things out" to get the old gal running as she should already be doing.....hmmmmm.......guess the "she" fits.....ROTFLOL!!!!!!!
Oh, btw, I am an old man - dang near 60..........

You, as much as I hate to admit, are probably right.......
Eventually, someone else would stir the pot.

It's got to be a short some where... what's all hooked up? and have you spliced into any other wires (ex. Brake, Turns)
Or it's just the damn battery, would this happen with the OEM?

After I first got it, I hooked up a turn signal add on that has little led rings attached inside the rear turn signal lenses that turn on red when braking and turn off and on when the signal is on and brakes are on...but never had any probs with that and it's been almost 2 years.
Have the fuel controller ( a Fuggin/doebek) that is plug and play...don't really splice anything, just plug it in and ground - it's grounded at the screw under the seat where the oem wires are grounded.
Was gonna get one of those stebel horns, but haven't done that yet.
Still have my oem battery in storage. But the Shorai gel is supposed to be the cat's meow..........
Running the brighter headlight bulb - sylvania, I think - been so long I forgot.
