Question Morton Exhausts your opinon

So have been sitting here the last couple of days with all kinds of ideas for my winter mods.

I have bought a few goodies so far and waiting to till the bike goes to sleep for the winter to put them on. Pair valves removed, new air box, fuel controller, engine covers etc.

but now I am thinking of swapping out my Cobras and getting a set of Mortons Infernos. whats your take on them for those who have them?

Also Cobra has two fuel controllers the FI2000 and the Fi2000R one says it clips right into the wiring harness and the other tees into it whats the difference in the install? Is one easier or is one better? confused on this one

I live about 20 min from Mortons and know Doug Morton. They did an exhaust on a trike for me. They sound good, but do not have the full chrome covers like the Cobras do so the pipes look smaller and they get hotter around your leg. I have the cobras and have compared first hand. With my cobras I run the Dyno Jet Power Commander V and have had no issues. If you are wanting a deeper sound to your cobras do the baffel mod on them if you have not done so already.

Just my 2cents

I have a pair of infernos on my fury. They are loud as hell, but run about as hot as hell too. I ended up wrapping mine becuase the heat shield wasnt as great as I expected. I like the cobras too, but think every fury I have seen had either had a stock exhaust or cobras, so I tried to stay away from the status quo. I dont think you will be dissapointed either way you go. Just my thoughts.

My two cents on the Morton's since I have them is they are a great sounding pipe and look good, pretty damn loud that's for sure, love the sound of them, but be prepared to hear a scraping sound if you take those right hand turns to sharp, on another note you can ask Doug Morton to cut them shorter, I would suggest about 4-6 inches shorter so you wouldn't have that problem.

Be prepared for them to blue or bronze unless you get the heat shields, I would think that even if you got the exhaust on and a PC5 they would still blue or bronze until you got it dyno'd. The Fi2000 does work good with them, but you are not going to get every last bit power and performance out of it like you would with a PC5, so if you can afford a PC5 and can get the bike dyno'd I would go that route if I had it to do over.

I don't know first hand if those heat shields would cover all of the blueing or bronzing or not, I would like to think they would since they are like 12 inches long and that's about how much would blue or bronze, but that's an added expense of $90 I think, plus you are recommended to get the power cones which provide back pressure, think they are $30 extra.

So all in all for the exhaust, power cones and shipping I think I paid $650. Take this for what it's worth as it's just my opinion and experience, I'm sure others have different thoughts and opinions.

To tell the truth if MFR would have been making pipes when I bought mine I would have got a set from him and that way you can get them like you want as far as style and coating you want, plus they would be about the same price that you would pay from any vendor for a set of pipes. I agree with you that I would definitely want something different as a lot of people have the Swepts and although they are not a bad looking set of pipes, just about everyone has them.

Good luck with you decision and if you have any other questions feel free to post them or send a pm and I will get back to you as soon as possible, I'm in the middle of selling my current house, starting a new job, and buying a new house all at the same time.

So.........
After going out for a ride today in high 70's which is very uncommon for this time of year (generally high 40's) I did the Dave Maher baffle mod on the cobras.

At first I let the bike idle for a few miniutes with out the baffles in and damn they were loud, I liked the sound and the tone but when I went into the house you could here the windows vibrate.(live in an older home) so decided to do the mod.

The baffles came out easy no problems cut the four inches off and reinstalled them with the help of a 3/8 X12 in carrage bolt the neighbour had.

It did quieten down a wee bit and the windows are not rattleing as much (livable) leaving work a 4 am with no baffles in I knew I was looking for trouble.

So all in all I am happy with that mod. the reason I was looking at the Mortons was I would like a little shorter pipe showing the swing arm a little more. I know MFR cut some Cobras awhile back but was just concerned about the heat shield since at the top of the curve they are only a 1/2 wrap aroundand the looks of the pipes from the back you would see the half shield.
I guess I am going to have to look in the area and see if anyone of the exhaust places up here that do custom work have any ideas for this....or if any of you's do I will be open to any sugestions..
Thanks for the feed back
