computer = HELP!!!
Hopefully, some of you techies out there can help me. I've been trying all danged weekend to get online and have been unsuccessful. I'm finally on just because I hit that privacy search in Firefox.
When i was going to firefox, chrome, explorer or whatever before, I could start accessing a website and then it would lock on data transfer. I ran hp help, mcafee virus scans, everything....can't find anything. I checked the firewall allowed access and that shouldn't be an issue. Even when I used hp help and tried to get it to access any website, it wouldn't. Friggin' frustrating as all get out!!!!
Any and all suggestions welcomed........................ :confuse d:

First great tool I can recommend for flaky computers:
Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware, anti-virus and spyware removal download
Download the free version and run a full scan, then clean up all the recommended items.
Second, make sure Adobe Reader isn't trying to update itself. Open Adobe reader, go to Help and check the update settings. Set it to not update automatically. Adobe will eat your entire internet bandwidth downloading updates without ever showing its face.
Last thing I can recommend if AV scan and Malwarebytes don't help is Combofix.
Index of ComboFix guides and tutorials
Careful with Combofix, though, it is a drastic tool that sometimes will render a PC unbootable if the infection has reached the operating system boot files. I've used it a number of times succesfully on peoples' PC's but had a couple pc's that just wouldn't boot afterward.
Theh bleepingcomputer board is a very helpful place to start before running Combofix... they actually put a disclaimer on it and tell you not to use it without someone on the board walking you through it.

DJ, I couldn't even get to a point to be able to connect and download anything. It would take me to the site, then load a part of it and lock up.....any site......with firefox, explorer, chrome, whatever......only way I was able to finally access it was to use the firefox privacy search, and that was just luck. But, given that, it should let me download something now.
I'm at work, so can't do anything with it now, but will tonight.

Have you reset the router?
UN-plug router wait 15 seconds then plug it in again. Wait till the router boots (green lights all on). Reboot PC test internet. If you still can't get to a web page try pinging a valid sight within a command line.
Start -> Run -> type "cmd" -> Click "OK".
You'll have a black window open now. Type "ping<space> Google hit "Enter"
if you get something like this:
Pinging Google [72.14.204.103] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 72.14.204.103: bytes=32 time=26ms TTL=52
Reply from 72.14.204.103: bytes=32 time=41ms TTL=52
Reply from 72.14.204.103: bytes=32 time=25ms TTL=52
Reply from 72.14.204.103: bytes=32 time=27ms TTL=52
This will indicate your internet is functioning fine, but there could be a problem with whatever browser you're using.
