Harley people aren't Harley people because of the bike. They are Harley people because they can say they are Harley people. Harley shirts, Harley boots, Harley hats, Harley stickers on the back of their trucks, Harley pins, Harley mugs for work, Harley bandannas, etc, etc, etc.
They hang with other Harley people and look down at all other bikes and the people who ride them. They aren't into the RIDE, they are into the Harley brand. They aren't motorcycle enthusiasts, just Harley people.
Certainly not all of them, but a pretty good percentage.
One thing I've always hated is my bike is better than yours and Harley people in general are the worst offenders.
I dig all bikes, don't care whether it's a 50cc scooter or a V8 Chopper.

Bikes today are different than they use to be. They used to be a motor, a chain, and a wheel with a seat and handlebars. Now they are computer controlled with programmable fuel injection and dynamic gear calibration and shaft drives. Its technology. And who does technology better than anyone else? THE JAPS! I'd rather have those tiny little geniuses building the bike they designed the parts for than a Harley built by lazy union-workers assembling bikes with parts that they don't even know what they are.
Besides if you ask a Harley owner why they bought they're bike, they will all tell you "Because it's a Harley!". I've never once heard someone reply about the bike itself, performance, ridability, etc.
And if you really have to have "American-assembled" (no such thing as American made on anything you buy) the Victorys come with a 106" and a 6-speed on every single bike in their 2012 lineup. It's not an upgrade, its standard. Harley wants $3k for the 'Power-Pack" which is a upgrade to a 103" and is only available on some models.

Don't forget Moto Guzzi's. My buddy has a V11 Bassa and it's a sweet bike.

I rode through a Hog rally at the the Northside HD dealers and for the most part I got the " Honda makes that? Cool " comments from the true riders and to be honest the true riders are the only ones I give a f*** about anyways. I do need to get some Fury apparel to wear !!

I find all bikes are good I love all of them. Harley's are just Americian and most Harley riders are good people just wanting to ride like everyone else. I have some of each but my Ultra what a bike to go long distance. It gets me there, it sounds good, my wife is comfortable, I can listen to tunes, it gets 48 MPG, dont leak oil, don't vibrate well just a little, and it sound so great. potato potato yes it sounds great.
