Default Ever wonder how motorcycles returned to the US Army?

Thought this might be fun to bring up on Veterans Day. Found this when I moved.....seems an eternity since i put this proposal through to the Army. I have alot of other documents that went with it but this is my favorite.

If anybody ever asks how bikes got back into the Army in the 70's tell them you know how and who.

Wow, not one response and here I thought it was interesting. Especially since General Vessey originally joined the military as a "motorcycle rider".

It is very interesting indeed. Are you General Vessey?

Naw, I am the Spec 4 mentioned in the letter. I could only wish to be a man of his stature. He was a pretty amazing man. Only man to ever hold all the ranks the Army had.

LOL, the original proposal I put to the Army had a quote for the bikes from a local shop...special built moto-cross/cross country bikes and the price in quantity was $1065.00. Sure wish bikes were still that cheap!
