I just got off the phone with a fuel tech at Chevron's Richmond Refinery in CA after eMailing him the sediment pic (in the first post). He has not seen residue like this before but will have one of his chemists look at it and report back. The difficulty here is that a proper analysis is impossible from just a photo.

There is no indication that this is a byproduct of the combination of gasoline and ethanol. Ethanol is 100% soluble in gasoline and all vehicles manufactured in this century are made with fuel system components compatible with 10% ethanol in common use today.

I'll be interested in what he thinks it is. It looks just like the rice cereal my daughter had when she was a baby.

If they will start drinking that corn and quit putting it in gas that crap will go away.

Thats good to know. If he was really interested he would want to have it analysed. Did he offer to test it?

I was kinda' thinking the same thing.

I've never needed to take anything to a lab for testing, but wouldn't there be a place that could test it to see what it is?

Maybe a local college or university?
