Well I lifted the bike tonight to take the weight off the bottom bearing - made no difference, notch was still very noticeable.

Did as JATO mentioned, dropped the bottom tree down about 1/2 inch or so packed some more grease in there and re-tensioned until the slop was gone out of the top tree. Notch appears to have gone but I haven't had a chance to take her for a ride yet. It does seem considerably easier to turn, would appear at this stage that I had over tensioned the stem bolt.

Thanks for the help everyone.

Scottie.

Went for a quicky yesterday, 75mile or so. Everything seems to be OK. Don't quite understand why I can't feel the notch at all anymore though. I'm also no longer certain that I've tensioned the stem bolt enough.

With the forks out of the top tree I tightened until the top tree wouldn't move side to side any longer - other than that I have no idea how to check for slop. I lifted the bike and tried to pick up the front wheel assembly - no movement in the head.

At this stage I've had no need to install a washer as others have.

Thanks for the help.

Scottie.

Beast,

As most people have mentioned, I find the handling better than stock, especially on the highway. The cheap crap cast trees move and shake at around 110km/h whereas the billet trees are rock solid.

I'm very happy with the change and quality, probably wouldn't have hurt to have a pro do the install though. I've done plenty of work on cars not so much on bikes. As long as I don't kill myself, I'm happy learning on the job.
