I really like the Toys 4 Tots program. It is heavily organized by people that ride. People like us, Almost every city has a hug organized ride and fundraising. This years ride here in York Co. had 500 bike ride to Hershey children medical center in 37* weather to deliver toys and money it was a great ride. We have had as many as 1500 in the past. not to mention the police escort and completely shutting down two interstates for miles. it amazing how far 500 bikes can stretch "as far as you can see".

A lot of my income goes towards the Thirst Project. I'm a board member of this organization here at Purdue. We raise money to fund wells in third world countries with the ultimate goal of ending the water crisis. As of now, a child dies every 15 seconds due to a water borne illness. That's just insane.

I feel extremely blessed and thank God every day. Locally I have been volunteering at our local food pantry. The families fill out cards with how many are in their family then we put together bags of food based on how many adults and how many children. I like getting the ones with kids, cause I can throw in extra cookies and things that I know they’ll like. Currently working on a toy drive as we speak.

Every day!

On Thanksgiving, this year, I had one of the best family gatherings in a long time, if ever. Just about everyone behaved, for once. We didn't argue about anything (well, almost, but I put an end to the potential argument by just stopping myself from further replies).

In that, I told Denise we really have nothing to complain about. Not a damn thing. When you consider what others who do have to complain about, we've got it quite good.

I try to keep that in mind every day and ... every year I try to spread donations out amongst a handful of regular causes. From cancer research via the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, to exonerating wrongfully convicted thru The Innocence Project, to cancer patient/family support with Hopewell Cancer Support, to turning old railroads into bike trails by Rails to Trails, or putting food on less fortunate families' plates during Thanksgiving by buying For For All tickets at Publix, and sponsoring my old friend and co-worker when he rides for The Jimmy Fund in the Pan Mass Challenge, then trying to continue to help New Orleans continue to rebuild with Mike Holmes' & Brad Pitt's Make It Right Foundation ... to so many other ways to help out.

There is one other way to help and I would like to implore upon anyone reading this to take the time to consider helping in this manner ... GIVE BLOOD! I can no longer give, due to the meds I now take since my M.I. But, I used to give blood every 56 days - the minimum time between donations - because ... if this cliche' meant anything, it means it here a lot ... it's better to give than receive.

That's why I joined the Knights of Columbus... and started the Knights on Bikes Connecticut chapter.

I run my annual Poker run to raise money for wounded soldiers' families at Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval Hospital. Around the holidays the Knights bring care packages to patients at the VA hospital and veterans' homes. We provide Thanksgiving dinner baskets with turkeys and all the trimmings and deliver them to the needy families in our city, we adopt a family at Christmas that we provide christmas presents for, raise money for and volunteer at the Special Olympics, hold blood drives at our facility, and lots of other stuff during the year.

I also serve on the Honor Guard for the Knights, serving at masses, wakes and funerals... it means a lot to the families of Knights.
