Default New Battery Dead

I bought a new battery a month or so ago. I have only gone riding a few times since and the bike has been sitting for a few weeks without a trickle charger. It was nice out yesterday, so I went to see if it would start. It was completely dead. I hooked up the trickle charger last night, but I still had no luck this morning. Does it need more time or did I kill my new battery?

check the kill switch near the throttle...maybe its in the wrong position...I make a fool of myself every now and then tryin' to start my bike for 20 minutes, till I remember the switch....If the lites come on, its not your battery, would be my guess...Good luck!

My stock battery (8 months, 3k miles) was dead when I got back from a two-week trip... threw it on the trickle and it's back to life!

OEM - I have it hooked up to the trickle again. I will give it some more time and hopefully I can get it started.

OEM batteries are AGM which are filled and sealed at the YUASA factory and may sit for many months before being put to use. During this period of disuse they sulphate as any lead/acid based battery will. Sulphation diminishes the exposed area of the lead plates and reduces the capacity of the battery which does not fully restore with normal charging. If you do a search for Battery Chargers there are a few relevant threads. Here is one. Also, the more discharged a battery is the more unlikely a full recovery can be made. Rumor has it that pulse charging and maintenance it the best way to combat sulphation .

Regardless, if you do not have anything draining your battery while it is sitting your vendor should replace since it's only a few months old.

I found the issue. It was not an issue with my battery, but with my trickle charger. I bought a new one last night. I charged the bike over night and it started perfectly this morning. What a beautiful sound! It is supposed to be 73 degrees today, so I am looking forward to some good riding!
