just FYI in case you guys/gals did not know.
Like many on this forum, I had cranking issues on my 2010 Fury. I finally decided it was the battery and I switched to the Shorai LI-on batteries. The Shorai worked perfectly every time, until it began to get cold. I'm still riding in NJ as long as there is no precipitation. a few weekends ago, I took my bike out in 32 degree weather (had been on trickle charger all night). Started fine in garage - after riding for about an hr, getting coffee, and trying to restart it (it had been sitting in cold with windchill), it just would not crank up, until the 3rd or 4th try. Now this is what I just read on the Shorai website:
Shorai LFX are much better in cold-weather conditions than other-brand lithium starter batteries, due to our eXtreme-rate formulation with low resistance. Down to about 20 degrees fahrenheit (-7C) most users find that they can start normally on first crank. If your headlight comes on at key-ON, it is good for the batteries to flow some current before cranking in cold weather. The suggested headlight-on time before cranking depends on the temperature. If starting at 40f (5C), 30 seconds will help wake the battery and increase cranking performance. If at 0f (-17C), leave the lights on for 4~5 minutes before cranking. The result will be a better first crank, and longer battery life. Any other accessories that can be turned on before cranking can also be used for this purpose, such as heated gear, radio, etc...
.........so it seems, that in colder weather, it may be better to plug in gear, leave headlight on for a while, before cranking, opposite to what I have been doing. Intend to try it out this weekend - only 40F out
just putting it out there if it helps anyone else
