I'm not picking on anyone, and last time I hijack this thread. But I have heard the same from so many people for years, "I'm just gonna work until I fall over." Years ago I asked an old co-worker of mine, "What did people do before pensions and retirement plans?" His reply was they just worked until they died, or if they couldn't work they just lived out on the streets.

I'll have 50% of my final rank pay in 4 years for the rest of my life. That's just fun money as I move on to other things in life, but at least that money is guaranteed to always be there. I'm sure I'll retire a 2nd time in about 30 years and collect from that as well....plus my investments. Bottom line, you have to have multiple back-up plans in life and have an extremely diverse set of talents with experience. The scary thing in the world (not just the US) is job security and being in a demanding career field. As a RN, you're already on the right side of the track!! And if you get into something like a CRNA, then you're really set. My overall goal is to get into a government GS-12 position or higher and work there until I can no longer do it.

I enjoyed this thread. It's fun seeing other member's toys. Here's a picture of one of my boats with a friend skiing behind it.
