Default Dumb Question about the backerest install

First of all let me apologize for my ignorance or once again OVER THINKING, but I am starting to install my backrest and I seen it says to use a 20 MM drill bit, but I measured the collars and they are 14 MM, is this correct on my instructions that seems like a huge hole for those spacers?

Once again thanks for your help, this forum is the best.

20mm is to much, I didn't have mm bits when I installed mine. just drill the holes about 16mm and try to install. may have to enlarge them a little to allow for manufacturing tolerances

MFR is dead on with the 16mm. I didnt have metric bits so measured up standards with size of spacers. My fender is off right now so just put the calipers on the holes and they measure 15.9mm to be exact. Spacers fit fine with some freespace and have had no issues. That works out to a 5/8" drill bit. Hope this helps.

don't do it.
is it the fury sissybar and pad?
don't drill into your fender.
sell it now.

Correct-a-mundo! There are other options and you will regret this later on like some others here.

Don't worry. If you change your mind later about the sissy bar and pad, you can always sell the bar pad and fender to someone and pick up an new oem fender for a little over $200. you would probably be able to get that much for the three items and then go on to what ever new idea you might have. It's all good. No real financial damage.

don't know that i agree with that statement anymore as not as many people are looking for rear fenders or the stock sissybar since there are more options out there now, if i had it to do over i wouldn't have installed the oem sissybar and you spend just about as much on it that you can for a custom one, as a matter of fact there was a guy that was talking about selling one that had ginz type fender brackets and a very nice sissybar, i'll look for the link and post it here in a few minutes.

heres the link to the thread where "thekykid" was discussing a new sissybar, think he's out of town for a few days but pm him if you are interested and see what he says:

New Sissy Bar Mounts

Only dumb question is the one you didn't ask and then screwed everything up because you did it wrong!

I agree with Skappiris. I did drill my fender for the Fury Sissy Bar and Pad and now I am taking it off to install my new Ginz bar. I am hoping that that holes can be filled with grommets and not be visible under the passenger seat so that I wont have to buy a new fender.

The Fury bar is too low to do much as far as strapping on any luggage. If you are only doing it because you need a passenger back rest, then you should be fine. I also like the look of the stock bar and pad, but again; it is pretty useless for strapping on luggage.

Good luck!

And if you do the T-mod, it won't really be good for a passenger either.
