Default mod to stock aircleaner

has anyone tried to mod the stock aircleaner to let more air in until more options come out? Might try and do this myself but thought if anyone did it already what did you do?

Read somewhere on here that they drilled a few holes into the rear facing side of the air cleaner to allow more airflow and prevent water from coming in..

I'm sorry, but I see no benefits for doing that and you just ruined a perfectly good Air Cleaner

No benefit? It now sucks in cold air directly to the box instead of sucking hot air through the restrictive snorkel. It does make a difference that you can notice when riding. I have checked the air filter twice since doing it and if anything it seems to help since instead of only getting the one small section of the air filter near the snorkel dirty, the entire filter is getting used. As far as I can tell those are all benefits.

That does not look like it would do a whole lot, to me.

Not a bad idea really. Slightly larger holes with rubber grommets might be the way to go if I was to do something like that though.

Uhhh.... that mod does not amount to a fart in a windstorm.
Cut a three inch diameter hole in the front cover, and that might help. That will not compromise the filter. better yet cut a design on the front cover and put an LED in there.

The restrictive snorkle you refer to looks to be about three one inch square holes in the top back of the filter housing, hardly restrictive. I doubt your holes do anything at all.
I have the S&S air cleaner installed, and you can hear the difference!
Nice job though, on the rear fender #86.

Must be one hell of a fart because it does make a difference in throttle response. I can feel it on acceleration and I can feel the air being sucked in with my hand an inch away from the holes. Maybe it's not as effective as the S&S air cleaner but it is far more affordable.
