Interesting ride last Saturday
So, I had a really interesting ride last Saturday. I was out on a nice two lane road no one else around so I got on the throttle and opened her up. As I was shifting from 3rd to 4th I felt something hit my right leg and looked down to see the spike of my D2Motto spike come flying off. The road I was on had a mowed shoulder about 10 feet wide then another 5 feet or so of 3 to 4 foot high weeds then a corn field. I stopped immediately and turned around and rode the shoulder looking for the spike (with a new K&N filter in it) hoping it was in the mowed area, also thinking it's a big chrome piece should be easy to find. I rode the shoulder 4 time and didn't see it. Was really pissed plus thinking I've got to ride home (30 miles) with an open intake (the elbow was there but nothing else). I finally found a place to park the bike and started walking the road covering about 1/4 mile, still didn't see it. On the way back down the road towards my bike I concentrated only on the high weeds and about half way to my bike I spotted it upside down in the weeds. I was really surprised it wasn't damaged just alot of mud on it. So I get back to my bike and wiped it all down go to my tool pouch knowing I had a set of allen wrenches in it and of course no wrenches. So I pushed it on the elbow (When I installed it originally I put a thin strip of duct tape on the elbow for more support) it felt pretty secure so I take off for home watched the spike closely. I get onto a four lane road doing about 50 and off pops the spike again, this time the damn thing wedges between my foot and the exhaust (never hit the ground) I stopped immediately and said screw it and stuck in my tool pouch (wouldn't fit all the way but enough) and rode the rest of the way home. When I got home I took out the allen screw and drilled the elbow (just enough to kinda countersink the screws) and reinstalled the spike. So the moral of the story is check those screws, when I installed the K&N filter I checked and tightened all the screws and bolts for the entire intake.
