Not a good idea. I say this because I did that. When I use my right turn signal the indicator goes off until the signal is off. Something I need to rewire now lol. Mounting it on the brake res is pretty much the most convenient place to put it.

I think you are both on the right track . To avoid signal interruption hook up to the front running light supply wire (brown) in the 14 pin connector inside the headlamp shell.
