Default Face Shield Option for Half Helmets

I like how this covers the ear and face, and I could still use it with my half helmet. I have inquired about. custom mask, so I will provide feedback if I end up purchasing one.

Your half helmet will not fit unless you cut some off the mask. I have seen them before at a paintball tournament it comes up on your forehead to far. If you go the video section you will see what I am talking about.

Perhaps I'm missing something.

Half face helmet: $50 to $120
Face mask: add $60 to $85

Why not buy a full face helmet that is both DOT and Snell approved for less?

Your not missing anything. I was not looking at this option to save money. I have a half helmet and a full face. I really only wear my full face if I am going to be on a long ride on the freeway. I hate full face helmets because they are so bulky and hot. I know they are safer, but I really only want the face shield to block the wind, bugs and sun on long rides.

TX,
I have had many of the same issues you are now faced with. Living in Florida, I disliked the full face helmet because of the same reasons you do.

So I bought a half helmet to go on shorter rides. They are definitely cooler, but much louder (from wind noise). Then there is the constant threat of rain we have here in Florida...It is not fun to be caught in the rain without a windshield and face shield...
To make matters worse, I wear glasses. That means I must have prescription glasses made specifically for the half helmet...Polarized prescription lenses are not good when it turns dark (pretty early these days), so I must carry another set of glasses and goggles. $$ + $$ + $$

Conclusion: I found it wiser to just wear the full face helmet on longer rides. There are some out there that are light, quiet, well ventilated, and not too costly. I really like the KBC Force RR. (Unfortunately KBC has gone out of business). And yes, they offer better protection.

I still wear the half helmet on local rides.

Save Phace | WORLDS Sickest Tactical Mask and ONLY Sports Utility Mask and Extreme Protection Mask
Savephaces are extremely rigid, and depending on the shape of your head, can be extremely uncomfortable. One size does not fit all with the savephaces. They're also going to be just as hot and stiffling as a full face mask.

Here in texas I've been wearing a Buff now that our temperatures are ranging from 40-60 in the mornings, to 80 in the afternoons.

I have the exact setup. Ever try the scorpion exo-100. I have it in matte black. Its a half helmet with a retractable face shield. works beautifully whenever i need more protection from bugs/wind etc.
