Default How much is a tire worth?

Just curious, how much would you spend on a used stock 200 rear tire? 5K miles logged on the tire in question.

I wouldn't buy a used tire but if I did I wouldn't pay more than 100 bucks since you can get a new one for right at or just below 200 bucks and 5k is about a half worn out tire depending on how you ride.

If 1/2 of the tire life is gone I wouldn't pay more than 25% of what a new tire would cost.

A lot of places wont even mount used tires that they didn't sell due to safety concerns.

Hmmm, best half is gone, no history, no warranty, mounting and balancing cost ... free sounds about right . Personally, I'd pay for the value of a new one .

I thought about cutting mine off too when I heard the price to remove it. If you do actually cut it off, I'd be interested to know how you do it. You can probably get one bead off easily with pry bars. I was thinking of putting a piece of wood under the remaining bead and using a dremel cut-off wheel then a reciprocating saw with course blade for the rest. Have to be careful not to ding the rim.

I hope you have a foolproof way of cutting your tire off the rim

Saving 40 bucks and risking a damaged rim: Priceless

No wait a minute: 600 bucks
