Vinyl wrap...

Hi, all

I recently bought a used 2016 Fury -- the price was right and the miles were very low.

I love the bike but *hate* the color -- matte gray. I've taken off the tank and fenders and my son was going to fix a dent and paint it either a Camaro-like red or inferno orange. The dent is fixed but it's going to be a while before he gets to paint it.

So... maybe the thing to do is to wrap the tank and fenders with a red vinyl sheet

Has anyone done this with a Fury? Any advice or suggestions?

Thanks.

Frank

It's been done on several Slingshots; anywhere there's contact and wear you'll have issues with vinyl or plasti-coat. You're probably better off with a good base coat of paint, a jydro-dip graphic, and 2-3 coats of clear.

If you're set on vinyl you'll probably want to use 2-3 coats of clear to blend the edges of the raised pattern into a smooth coat so they're not creating a high-friction zone and the tank is easier to keep clean.

My thought is if you're doing paint, lay custom, the extra money is worth it, but of course it's your bike and your money.

Red face

So if it's going to take a couple coats of clear to seal the vinyl edges, I might as well wait 'til my son gets the time to do a base coat / clear coat proper paint job and forget about the vinyl.

Thanks for the feedback...

...so taking advice from this forum, I waited for my son to paint my tank and fenders.

Here's the finished product.

Original color matte grey, new (Camaro) color inferno orange.

I have always liked the matte colors but that paint job that your kid does looks really good. Congrats on making the color your own!

I've always thought bikes, cars, boats, etc. should be *red* but my son talked me into this orange.

I have to say that, since it's been done, I've grown to *love* the effect. Don't even want to add pinstripes or flames, just leave it as is...
