Advisory: C&C Solo Seat+Cobra Luggage Rack fitment issue

2667 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  skappiris
TASK: install a C&C Solo seat with a Cobra Solo Luggage Rack
ISSUE: The OEM hole that held the pillion seat in place does not line up with the Cobra fastener hole.
WHY: The C&C seat is approx. 1" shorter in length than the OEM seat (i.e. distance from front edge of horn to back edge of seat) .

CHANGED MY POST AS FOLLOWS:
Contrary to what I posted last night, I will not need to drill a new hole.
The light of a new day has dawned and I can compress the rack/seat combo to fit the hole.

I'll have pix and detailed instructions in a few days.

fyi: for those of you who PM'd me regarding pix--there is a very definite visual and physical difference with the 1" added lumbar push.

For the time being; I have to purchase some hole fillers/caps to fill in the sissy bar holes and the OEM pillion hole.
I also see a new rear fender in my future, folks. It won't be OEM.

I am going to sell my Fury sissy bar on Craig's list. ($60incl. shpg) <a word to the wise--know ye what the heck you're getting into before you start drilling>

Hey, I'll bet BP could have used that advice!

C&C Seat comparison to OEM

Here's a couple of shots of the OEM and C&C seat comparing size. I lined them up evenly along their horn tongues (on the underside).

OK just a stupid question since I dont have the cobra rack... Does it mount to the passenger seat bracket holes on the OEM seat and are you mounting it to the main bolts on the C&C since the passenger seat bracket holes arent there? Just wondering.

1. There are two brackets under the OEM rider seat.
2. Remove the larger bracket [that the pillion attached to] from the smaller bracket. You won't use that bracket again.
3. Remove the smaller OEM bracket from the OEM seat and attach it to the C&C seat using the small, cheap bolts supplied by C&C.
4. Mount the rack to the tapped bolt holes that the pillion was attached to using the two OEM metric bolts. There are two pair of holes on the remaining bracket. The rack attaches to the back pair of holes that were originally occupied by the pillion bracket.

Hope that helps.

btw only an arrogant fool would tell you your question is stupid. An intelligent man would answer your question without making himself appear stupid.
HA,HA,HA,HA,HA:D:D!! THAT IS FUNNY!

I have a fender cover. I hope I don't need to adjust anything on it to mount the new seat when it get's here?
I do remember seeing a fender cover on Dave maher bike with the solo seat.
Guess I will find out soon enough.
did you have to do anything to your oem seat? they seem to be of similar molds. you should be ok.
