Back in Black...

.. i hit the sack, its been so long i'm glad to be back... you get the drift!

Well, after a 3 year hiatus since selling by former Fury, affectionately known as Red Bull, i'm just about back again.. plan to buy this 2012 Fury tomorrow.. my favorite color, 10k miles, presumably showroom condition and a completely stock blank canvas for me to mod again.. luckily i remember some of my old tricks, so will be anxious to share as it progresses.
I'm thinking the name "Blue Ballz" but not sure yet, any suggestions are welcome, my kids make a silly smirk anytime i mention that ;)

Some background that led to today.. after owning Red Bull for 5 years and modding to where i liked her, i started to get bored and wanted to try something new, maybe it was a mid-life crisis, but i got a ZX14R for a short stint and couldn't get her as comfortable as i wanted (that bike was silly fast though omg!)... sold and then bought a CSC RX4 (Chinese ADV) but it was heavy and sluggish on the open road, sold that and bought a Mean Streak, had that for a bit, sold and bought a new M109R for a short while, but again wasn't as comfortable as i had hoped for especially 2-up, sold and bought my current bike a 2009 Raider S, but same thing, not so comfortable on the road with alot of wind noise despite trying different windshields.. so i'll be back home again to the Fury, my all-time most comfortable and favorite bike! Great to be back!

Thanks, do you think drilling the stock airbox + k&n will have much performance gains vs just the k&n alone? It would be great if we had dyno results of stock vs k&n filter vs modified vs other options, but yea one can wish
I would not drill holes in the stock air box as the air box can flow more than enough air. On the AU/EU/UK bikes Honda installed a rubber plug blocking 2/3 of the opening. With only 1/3 open it flowed enough for the engine so removing the rubber plug and switching to a K&N filter will flow more than enough air from a performance point of view.

Changing the air filter for looks or to stop it hitting your leg are another matter.

Well i couldn't leave well enough alone i guess.. ordered a K&N filter and did the airbox hole mod to increase flow and sound when it arrives.. a little on the rough side, i may install some type of rubber rings to clean up the look later on.. that is if i don't wind up changing it up to another intake style in the end..
I also drilled the exhaust one step further to 13/16" with a hole saw (cat mesh still intact) which increased the tone a bit further and is the best stopping point for now, before i can get my hands on some Cobra slip-ons

If I were doing it, I would drill the box just to get as much air as possible into the intake
If u drill the box.with open Cobra swepts...
do u need A controller ??

You need a controller once you change or make the stock airbox more free flowing, not necessarily by only changing your exhaust.. i have the Fi2000R already so can change anything at will

Do you happen to have a close up of the hole you made in the muffler? Be interesting to see if you can see the baffling.

Thanks. Looks like the best way to open the muffler up. I was never a fan of drilling through the baffles and cats.

My Cobra swepts sound great with the baffles drilled out

Im sure they do! I had drilled, cut to shorten and did all sorts of experimenting with the Cobra swepts on my first Fury and paired with a 750 idle was a sweet harmony!
Unfortunately those pipes are almost double what i paid for them back in 2015 so i'm sitting it out this time around

Ok, so i drove a good hour + to see the bike and sadly it was a no-go.. it wasn't as well kept as i had hoped for, some rust where scraping took place under the bike, cracked fork dust guards and an electrical issue, one side blinkers were flashing faster than the other side despite both bulbs front/rear working.. i just didnt want to buy and then have to fix issues right away.. so, i found one closer to me on the way back.. this one is a 2017, 6k miles, very well taken care of and comes with very comfy mustang seats and forward controls.. wifey approved.. bought for $6500 which i consider a good deal..

So now its 2 bikes enter, 1 bike must leave... View attachment 245868 View attachment 245869
Those look like the FC20 Refined cycles forward controls.

I am not a fan of them after a couple years on them...

Yea I had to make a couple adjustments to the forward controls as the brake was sitting too low and barely engaged.. even after raising the lever a bit it still a bit soft to engage and I need to really step on it to get real stopping action. Also I find that the material is soft and should have been all steel; it flexes which is not very confidence inspiring. On a positive note, looking back at the first thread, I did sell the Raider last Friday so the garage is a bit roomier

I did a thorough review of these and this is what I found too. I'm talking with Vray now about having some made. I can't stand my set anymore

Generally people hook them with a drum brake puller (or something similar) and pound them out.

Sometimes in life you get lucky! Well, i scored in a big way! I had read someone asking how to remove baffles from Cobra swept exhaust over on Facebook and one of the responders posted that he had a hell of a time with removing the baffle from the top and then gave up and bought new pipes.. well i replied to them asking if they still had the Cobra swepts pipes and wanted to sell them.. to which they responded "hell you can have them for free".. i couldnt believe it and pm'd right away, we arranged shipment from a UPS store and i paid the shipping to have the store pack and ship to me.. just arrived today and the pipes are in great overral condition with a few dimples from where it was banged on trying to remove the top baffle.. oh and damn UPS banged up the box and the edge of the top pipe at the end was bent downwards, ugh! Well i opened a claim with UPS and may get some compensation for that, i already bent back to almost normal.. anyway just waiting on 2 new gaskets and then will install tomorrow.. good times!

Nice, that was my very first exhaust system, except in black.

Same here, i had bought new ones for my old Fury back in 2016 for a cool $490 at the time, its like double now, i like aftermarket pipes and all but $800 or so is just too much!
These cost me $120 for shipping and if UPS does the right thing and credits me $100 for the claim then they were practically free.. and if i sell my stockers then its all gravy money towards the next mod :)

Just installed the new pipes including new gaskets.. was a breeze to install since i already had crow-feet open-end socket attachments from the first go around.. It was funny to find that the bottom front (hardest to access) nut was actually able to be removed by finger strength, so not sure if someone had messed with it or it just loosened on its own over time.. Anyway, super pleased with the result.. and without a doubt the performance gains to be had on the Fury are mostly from the exhaust. I felt little to no difference with the airbox mod paired with K&N paired with the stock exhaust and FI2000R but whowee adding the Cobra full exhaust definitely increased the power from a seat of the pants feel.. it had been too long for me to remember as i rocked these pipes soon after buying my first Fury.. love the sound with the baffles in, just loud enough, actually not much louder than the modified stockers.. i wont be messing with these baffles thats for sure as the top one already has been banged on to hell.. Good times :)

Swepts all around are one of the best aftermarket pipes for the fury, especially since they cover the swingarm
