Back in Black...

.. i hit the sack, its been so long i'm glad to be back... you get the drift!

Well, after a 3 year hiatus since selling by former Fury, affectionately known as Red Bull, i'm just about back again.. plan to buy this 2012 Fury tomorrow.. my favorite color, 10k miles, presumably showroom condition and a completely stock blank canvas for me to mod again.. luckily i remember some of my old tricks, so will be anxious to share as it progresses.
I'm thinking the name "Blue Ballz" but not sure yet, any suggestions are welcome, my kids make a silly smirk anytime i mention that ;)

Some background that led to today.. after owning Red Bull for 5 years and modding to where i liked her, i started to get bored and wanted to try something new, maybe it was a mid-life crisis, but i got a ZX14R for a short stint and couldn't get her as comfortable as i wanted (that bike was silly fast though omg!)... sold and then bought a CSC RX4 (Chinese ADV) but it was heavy and sluggish on the open road, sold that and bought a Mean Streak, had that for a bit, sold and bought a new M109R for a short while, but again wasn't as comfortable as i had hoped for especially 2-up, sold and bought my current bike a 2009 Raider S, but same thing, not so comfortable on the road with alot of wind noise despite trying different windshields.. so i'll be back home again to the Fury, my all-time most comfortable and favorite bike! Great to be back!

Just installed the new pipes including new gaskets.. was a breeze to install since i already had crow-feet open-end socket attachments from the first go around.. It was funny to find that the bottom front (hardest to access) nut was actually able to be removed by finger strength, so not sure if someone had messed with it or it just loosened on its own over time.. Anyway, super pleased with the result.. and without a doubt the performance gains to be had on the Fury are mostly from the exhaust. I felt little to no difference with the airbox mod paired with K&N paired with the stock exhaust and FI2000R but whowee adding the Cobra full exhaust definitely increased the power from a seat of the pants feel.. it had been too long for me to remember as i rocked these pipes soon after buying my first Fury.. love the sound with the baffles in, just loud enough, actually not much louder than the modified stockers.. i wont be messing with these baffles thats for sure as the top one already has been banged on to hell.. Good times :)

My only question now is do i stay a nice boy and remain at 1-2-1 or become a rebel as they used to be called by rocking 2-3-4 :)

Do you also have full exhaust and modified intake? I ran 2-3-4 on my first Fury with the only difference between now being a spike intake and it ran great.. will test out and see how it feels

I run the same setup as Furious_Mike (Cobra factory setup) and switched to 2-3-4, per advice from the Forum. Discovered I was running too rich too, resulting in EXCESSIVE backfiring (loading up the cylinders). It was most obvious when I was returning back home from Daytona during Bike Week this year. She would backfire idling AND running 70 mph during the 90 miles coming home. Whatever works for ya, it just didn't work for me!

In general the backfiring can also be a result of the pair valve as the culprit.. luckily i have no backfiring at 2-3-4 and she's running like a raped ape, love it!

I agree BUT when I went back to the 'original' setup per Cobra (without having the pair valve), the backfiring all but disappeared and then only produced itself as I come down from speed which I find WAY COOL! (Radical CHOPPER syndrome!)

Couple of updates: i removed and replaced the cut spring with an original OEM spring, so should allow me to soften the rear up a bit and less bottoming when riding 2-up
I also bought an installed LED bullet style signals, so far just the rear, still to-do for the front but i think it definitely cleaned things up. These are mated to a fast-relay fix connector to prevent hyper flash

If the turns are the cheep Chinese ones you will want to hit them with a few coats of clear. The paint they use is crap and will oxidize quick.

I’m very jealous of those of you that got the kuryakyn velociraptor intake while they were made for this bike, I really like that look
