BAFFLED ????

For those of you that have,or have heard the Cobra Swept pipes, whats you general thoughts on the sound with baffles in or out. As my bike is strapped to the operating table I have 4 more weeks before it will begin to be put back together, and at that time my Cobras and Cobra FC will be installed.Dealership is doing all the work so they will dial everything in at the time and I dont have worry about the FC tuning. The pipes were the ones that I liked the most in design, sound came in secondary.I have heard that these pipes are not much louder than stock with baffles in,others say that with the baffles out that they think if they were any louder they would probably get pulled over, and another has said with baffles out they wish the bike was a little louder.Mechanics tell me that supposedly Illinois received more funding to start cracking down on loud pipes this year.So whats the general consensus,do these pipes with the baffles in give a noticeable more rumble more than stock or not,or with the baffles out do they deliver a good sound thats not obnoxious and scream write me up Mr.Officer?

Everybody is going to have their own opinion. Here is mine for what it’s worth. The Cobra’s sound much better than the stock pipes, no question. I road this way for a month or so and decided to pull the baffles. In my opinion, it sounds a lot better. Some will tell you that any pipe with the baffles removed will sound like crap. If I had to do it all over again, I would pull the baffles. I don’t think you will have to worry about Mr. Officer. There are a lot louder bikes in my area than mine.
Everyone has their own opinion of what sounds good and bad. Do your research and make a decision that makes you happy. I will be going w/o baffles someday.
chop the baffles down, a little of both worlds, loud but not too loud
I have the swepts and idle is a nice rumble,,not to hard not to soft,,after 2nd gear it screams,,,sounds good if your on the throttle, I cant take my baffles out because I would have to put them back in every year for emissions checks for the state inspection. So I would say if you can get away with it without a hassle do it,,I have heard 1 up close and personal and im jealous, I rode with him today and it pisses me off hes a cop and has a hook up to not have to show his bike at inspections, but sometimes its who u know. Maybe hell bring me in the same loop. He rode behind me today and said my bike actually sounded good with the baffles in. He was suprised actually. good luck
I have D&D mufflers without the baffles all I can say is the baddest sound ever.
I rode with mine in till season ended then removed them. After riding the other day I LOVE it without the baffles.

I did the same thing!!!
If you cut them down, you will eliminate the first baffle while leaving the rear baffle in place. So if one were to stick a device of some sort in the end of the pipes they would not know they are cut because they would feel just like full baffles because of the set screws and back baffle is still there. I cut mine to about 4" and it improved the sound and reduced the gurgle on decel, sounds great. To me better, they sound just right. No baffles is a little too much, baffles in is not enough. I think its the sweet spot for sound. Too easy to do. Also, it is easier to completly remove them and replace them as you want to. As stated earlier, everyone has an opinion. Just mine. No cost mod. I took the chance and thought if I screwed it up, I'd just order new baffles, no need. Works for me.
how does one remove the baffles anyway?

Idk.My dealership is doing all the work thats why I am trying to get a idea about the overall sound from others so when they set up the FC they just have to do it all at the same time and if anything is not right it falls back on them, there are others that do their own work and know more about different issues on here or are actual mechanics.
Pull em out....you will not be the loudest bike on the road by a long shot. Remember, its that right hand that determines just how loud when and where you want it.
My baffles are still in and I personally like the way the Cobras sound. I've had several compliments. I would like to hear what they sound like with the baffles out, but since I'm too lazy to mess with it and am happy with the sound, I guess I'll never know.
I actually just pulled my baffles out on Monday. Very easy to do especially since I only rode twice since I installed the Cobras. The sound is a lot louder than stock during acceleration and when revving the engine. At idle it is pretty calm in my opinion, but still louder than stock. It basically sounds like a Harley to me.

As far as taking the baffles out??
1. Take the set screw out of each pipe.
2. I just took a long L shaped allen wrench, put the bent end in the set screw hole from the inside and grabbed the sraight end with a pair of channel locks and pulled them right out. It was really easy and took all of 10 minutes.
i modded mine so mr. flat top cant get his stick in it.just as loud as with them out.ride safe.

Yeah, I've heard it, but I can't really tell the difference. I need to hear it in person.
Steveo, After I pulled the baffles, is just started grinning from ear to ear.:D

So it doesn't sound obnoxiously loud? It's hard to take someone else's advice when loud is in the ear of the beholder.:D Have you ever heard an exhaust that was too loud and obnoxious? I rode with someone that had straight pipes on his bike and it was just annoying. I like it to be loud while yet still retaining that deep throaty sound.
