This is not a bash against anyone but is it just me that likes a lot of the bike stock the way it is? I see a lot of guys that put a lot of money into their bikes that could have probably just got someone to build them a custom one in the first place for the money they bought the bike for and with all the customizations. I am going to change some things with the bike don't get me wrong but I'm overall happy with the way the bike looks stock. I know I could have had a buddy custom build a decent bike for like 10k but I'm impatient and didn't want to wait so that's why I bought the Fury as it had a nice custom look to it, rode good, and I felt comfortable on it. I guess the point of this is to ask why you chose to get this bike and upgrade everything instead of getting one that was fixed up already or get someone to build one for you or with all the knowledge that a lot of you have not built your own? Again this not a bash against anyone so don't take this the wrong way, I'm just trying to figure out the reasoning behind why some spend lots of money on aftermarket parts, thanks.

I build my bike to "make it mine" for one thing. It is a hobby and I enjoy turning a stock bike into a more custom look. I also enjoy going to shows and bringing home trophies. That is actually how I got into riding...my husband let me register his bike at a show and I won. It was so much fun that I wanted my own. The fury is the best looking stock bike out there in my humble opinion, but there is plenty of room for improvements that make it your own. When is too much? I guess that is a matter of opinion.

I liked the basic concept of the bike except for the rear end. I looked at HD and Big Dog. Even going with the Heartland kit, I couldn’t make the Rocker look the way I wanted. Big Dog would be a service issue. They closed their local dealership and getting anyone to work on it would be a challenge. Money wasn’t a factor in my decision. I decided that the Fury had the “bones” of what I was looking for and also had the reliability. I have as much if not more in mine than a Big Dog or Rocker. Now I have the look I wanted and just as importantly, the Honda reliability. That is why I chose the Honda Fury.

When I walked into the Honda dealer, they had three new Fury's sitting there. A blue one, a black one w/anti lock brakes, and a silver one. Then I saw a blue trade in. It had aftermarket pegs, grips, levers, a lighted chin spoiler, a Corbin seat and a set of mirrors that I still havn't seen anywhere else. 1496 miles on the clock. I was like, I'll take it but that's gotta go, this has to go. Then I started adding it up $$$ and really looking at it hard, and the stuff just looked good on the bike. I'm not a spike and skull kind of guy, but the pegs and grips and levers from Kuryakin just fit the bike. The chin spoiler looks awesome at night. And I can even see out of most of the mirrors so they do function. I am just getting by $ as far as being able to have one built, it is out of the question. And I like the Honda reliability. To each their own as far as customization. Leave it alone, or go hog wild. All at once, or a little at a time.

I agree that the Honda Fury is the best factory looking bike on the market, that's one of the reasons I went with it, along with the reliability that Honda is known for. The only real complaint I have about the bike is the gas tank is to small, I love how it looks but you are constantly filling up it seems like. This being my first bike I was surprised to find out after I had bought the bike that the fenders and a lot of the chrome pieces were plastic, not that it's a great big deal but I didn't realize that when I bought it nor did the dealership say anything about it, but I guess that's a reason that it's a few thousand less than the other bikes. And yeah I can understand the "when is to much" is a personal opinion and dependant on each persons budget, but my personal opinion would be that if money wasn't an issue that I would have built my own bike and then that would really make it mine with everything that I wanted. Thanks for your opinions.

well most tear drop tanks arent bigger then the Fury,s its a chopper,,its about looks not simplicity. My 09 VTXT had a 5GL and a 1/2 reserve..also burned more fuel,,I still had to fill up at around 130,,the Fury might have a smaller tank but gets avg 40MPG,,120 miles on 1 tank is avg for any bike,,my rull of thumb was 100 miles im stopping i didnt care..I used that as my fudge factor. I also like taking something fresh and making it my custom,,there isnt a custom bike maker who can do what honda has done over the years with the 1300. I had to go with longevity ,,,and reliability. then i took it and made it mine.

In a nut shell, the Fury is a great starting platform. Stock looks good. Personalization makes the bike great!

Besides, i cant leave well enough alone. My tuner has truck loads of money dumped into it, and it has always been a daily driver. My RC rig ... yeah that one out of the box will run you $1,200. Currently im 3Xs that ... ON A REMOTE CONTROLLED TOY!

Ditto on all of the above except the shows. I really want my bike to be 'one of a kind' in every way I can.

I liked the bike stock, but... saw what I wanted to see out of it as I wanted to make it "mine"...

I have only put a little over 3k into my bike, with paint... will be close to 5k, still at sticker price 18,000 (5k over a "pasted" stock sticker price)... and the bike is the way I like it without the beautiful lines that a mass corporation came up with (with a little help). I like that idea, because a lot of custom bikes that people made, usually have issues later on... and the real question is will they be around to help you fix that bike?

Also, it may just be a show bike after they get done making their creation for "my bike". Then that money and bike to me is just a throw away. Just passed 14,000 miles on my bike and I still have a warranty. I also have the extended warranty on my bike and I am not afraid of the small "chop shop" that made my bike are going to go out of business. Even if it was a big chopper shop, then you are looking at 20+k for the bike new and that is excluding some of the accessories that many of us put onto the bike.

I also like the fact that there is a growing number of us on the forums and that are owners of this bike. This also helps spur idea's for better, more unique things that can be done with this bike. Also free's up my time from having to post all the time... ;)

Anyways, yes... I was perfectly happy with this bike when I first saw it, but wanted to make it my own...

Yes, I left an important reason out of my first post. First, I'd like to know who is building a custom bike for 10K! I have been around and the true "custom" bikes are anywhere from 20K to into 100K. I've also seen some of those bikes in person. One of the main reasons for purchasing the Fury is that it is a performer not just a looker. I wouldn't have any of the customs I've seen because they are lookers and not performers. Most of those guys pull them off a trailer and put them in a show and never ride them. The few poor saps that do ride them have had fenders crack due to vibrations and ridgid frames, pipes blue, engine problems and the list goes on and on.

I think everyone on here bought the bike because it is close to what we want. For me i bought it because it was one of the closest designs I liked in newer bikes, the price was right, and it doesnt hurt as much starting stock and throwing a few hundred here and there into making it your own in the long run rather than sitting there thinking wow i just spent 20+K on this bike. Im content with my bike, but know i will have it for a while and eventually want to add alot to it (custom paint, 250 rear, blackout engine polishing fins, seat, internally setup bars, chrome rims) but that will all come with time and I want to be riding now rather than saving another year to be able to afford my dream bike.

You got it Dragon…... I was going to build my own bike. Not get it built. I would have spent more money and 1/2 as reliable. The fury is very close to what I was going to build and each mod I do gets it closer. The best part is that I ride in between mods...

Some guys screwed up and bought the wrong color. Now they are spending all of their money trying make it as nice as our black ones! You and us other black owners know that they will never succeed:D

Well like i said from the get go was that i was not trying to bash anyone on how much they spent, it's your bike and your money, i was just trying to see why others put a lot of money into their bike and get different opinions and what made me think of it was not long ago i remember someone trying to sell their Fury that had like 11k in upgrades, yeah the bike is reliable and all that but your never going to get that type of money back out of it if you try to sell it.

lol Spud i totally agree about the black Fury, i like that one the best, but thats not to say the other ones aren't nice also but i just prefer the black one.

well i'll respectfully disagree about building your own bike, you can build it for a decent price, the most expensive part is the motor, so dependant on which motor you get it wouldn't be that bad. the only thing i'm not sure about is the warranty you would get with an engine you bought. i do like to fix my toys up, if you look at my album you will see some vehicles i got or have had that i have fixed up so i'm not against it just wanted to get others perspective on it was all.
