I have searched a bunch of post and now have reached my limit and just want to make sure I'm on the right track with pipes and fuel controllers.

1. cobra swpts/baffles in/stock air=no fuel controller
2. cobra swpts/baffles out/stock air=need fuel controller
3. cobra swpts/baffles out/aftermarket air=need fuel controller
4. cobra swpts/baffles in/aftermarket air=need fuel controller

are these statments correct?

Yes, whenever removing the baffles or replacing the air intake..

Sorry Tony but I would have to disagree on the no baffles and needing a fuel controller. If you pull the baffles you wouldn't be putting enough more air through the the filter/intake to make enough difference to hurt anything. Now with the intake changed you would probably burn a piston or something running too lean.

Should have a FC reguardless, but can kinda get away without one with just pipes usually

I am currently running the septs with no baffles and no controller.....I do get some popping on deceleration, but nothing too worry about. I will eventually get the controller though.
Shak; is your PAIR valve still hooked-up/activated?

Cheers

Pair valve will do that, but with the baffles some of the internal temp remains in pipes longer cutting chance of messing up an exhaust valve. The fuel controler causes bike to run richer which will lower exhaust temps and help reduce that from happening

Brillo:
I agree with the statement you wouldn't be putting more air in the system, but you also are changing the back pressure from some to next to none.
Will a fc help? I'm no expert..
It's been my rule of thumb if your changing the intake of air, your going to need a fc.

A fc on these bikes are just to fuel mixture interceptor/adjuster.. With the throttle and gear position.
(other than the auto-tune system with O2 sensor)

But you are correct..

I love how this topic always resurfaces..:D

Old wives tale, imright!

Only two sources of "popping"; exhaust re-charge (PAIR), and reversion. Look it up!

What is a PAIR valve?
Shak;

The PAIR Valve is an EPA/emissions thing.

Being relatively new here, you're probably not aware of all of the discussion that has already taken place re this subject. Do a search here in the archives to bring yourself up to speed.

In short, the PAIR Valve "shoots" a charge of fresh air into the exhaust ports when you close the throttle, which can create an "after-burn" effect in the header pipes, which, in turn, can contribute to the "popping" you were referring to. Plugging the intake tube to the PAIR Valve is the quick-and-dirty work-around, though reversion ("suck-back") can still be an issue, especially with short, open exhaust pipes.

Cheers
