Will your dealer install accessaries, not purchased at his dealership? I purchased an accessary that he did not carry and asked if he would install it for me. Of course , I was going to pay the labor for the installation. He said that he would do it this time but never again. This is after I purchased two bikes from him. What is your opinion of this policy?

Find a good independent shop

Find a good independent shop for that kind of work. Do your warranty at the dealer.

I can't believe they would turn away business like that!
I also own a VTX 1300, I bought a Tach last year and had the dealer install it. They were more than happy to install it. In fact, they put it on free of charge. They scratched the handle bar ever so slightly, and felt bad enought not to charge me.

Write them a letter

I would take the time to write them, dealership owner, a letter explaining your disappointment in them. I have actually done that in the past, and received a letter of apology from the owner with a coupon for my next servicing free of charge.

Sounds crazy to me. I have bought 9 bikes from the same dealer and he would install a rocket launcher on my bike if I had one to install. I guess it's just your dealer.

The only reason I can see behind a policy like this is this:

If the installed part has a problem that
1. Is from installation, then the shop does not carry the item to replace it with or
2. If the part is faulty and someone tries to claim it was the installation, once again they do not carry it and would have to worry about part warranty.
