First off love this forum, you all are nuts and love it. hense why I'm asking for your guys opinion. About to send the bike to the shop to get fixed up from the drop, but afterwards I had a thought. I saw some motorcycle speakers that attach to the handle bars and thought that might be nice since I listen to my headphones in my helmet when I ride. Any thoughts my friends?

Headphones for now, but if you go with speakers, I would find something that looked like them, such as your turn signal lights and put them up there to see what you think and how bulky they are. Can always mount them under the handlebars, but then you risk the chance of hitting the tank. Kind of a lose, lose with aesthetics and functionality with this bike and those speakers, have thought about both as well and this is what I came up with... I have thought about the tank bag as well for longer trips, but I don't like the idea of the magnets scratching the tank if there is dirt underneath it when I put it on. If you come up with something that still looks good on this bike, make sure to post it.

I'm thinking something along the lines of these: Kuryakyn Sound of Chrome Motorcycle Speakers 852: eBay Motors (item 200472466013 end time Jul-13-10 06:34:03 PDT)

or something like: Pyle Motorcycle Mount 200 W Stereo w/Handlebar Speakers: eBay Motors (item 200482294942 end time Jun-18-10 05:53:47 PDT)
honestly not sure which would be better not including the price difference. but just WATTS and how much sound i would actually hear. i was gonna mount them right up next to the cables and levers.

I have seen some speakers and thought about this also, are you talking about the silver bullet looking type speakers that are supposed to mount to the handlebars? Wonder if they could be mounted to the downtubes, are they directional? I don't know how well speakers would work riding down the road with the way the wind whips you around and beats your ears up, at least with a half helmet, think I'll stick to earphones myself.

Yeah that first link to eBay is the ones I seen, no way I would pay that for such a small set of speakers, that's just crazy. Never seen the second set before, but I would be leary about how well they work on a bike with no fairing, I think the sound would get lost in the wind and plus like I said if your wearing a half helmet your ears are getting beat up, guess they would work fine is your cruising around town though.

At their size, they are fairly directional... But, since sound disperses in air, it will not be like throwing a dart at a board, more like soft waves in a pond after a rock goes into it. Unlike subwoofers, which are considered by most, multi-directional, (which is why you hear bass before you hear treble or higher frequencies) and will create the bigger waves in a pond. At a smaller size, the frequency range will be more limited to a narrower bandwidth than a larger speaker.

They would be better on the handlebars, on the forks, would probably lose a lot of sound at moving speed, (unless you blasted them, then you run the risk of blowing them up, due to over amp'ing them) due to wind noise, road noise and the other objects in the way.

I used to build speaker boxes in my teens for people and I have installed many stereo systems. I guess I have always been interested in electronics...

LOL I'm surprised I haven't seen some of the comments like when people post about the gov and 100 mph. :) Like if you want tunes get a bagger with a fairing and stereo wtf it's a chopper. :)

Ummm if one of you get them post a pic please, sounds like a nice add on

Thought about it, but I like my tunes :D If we can find a good way to make it look good and still hide it, why not... A fairing is kind of hard to hide on a chopper... rotfl... :p

ok, if you follow many of the threads on the forum you realize we do not have a "try before you buy" opportunity as bikers. Frankly, speakers are a very personal choice for sound quality and power. I've heard that many of the bike rallies and bike nights have vendors that specialize in demo's of their speakers (and other products).

I'm really tired of this guessing game we are forced to play. Heck, we buy seats for our rides without even testing them.
this is nutz!

^^^ same here. As my dealership owner told me, to insure the bikes thru the dealership for test rides ... it would run them about 15K a month! He told me Harley can do it, cause they can make that kinda money on one or 2 sales. Imports can not.

I bought mine from only sitting on it. Couldnt push it around or anything. Sign the papers, then well let you ride the damn thing! LOL I honestly have no regrets.

I like the Kuryakyn ones you posted but just beware it you do buy them the speaker mounts wont fit the Fury bars without modifying and they meant for one inch bars. Good Luck!

I would love to listen to music while riding ... it would put me in the "zone" while riding. Kinda like driving a truck in NYC doing 50 MPH and weaving in and out of traffic! I love it when my helpers close their eyes and wimper a little. ROFLMAO.

But i digress .. i couldnt hear anything over my Vipers anyway. These things are LOUD!

What size are the bars again Dave, 1 1/4 correct? Also, what size are the down tubes, same?
