So, I have drilled out my baffels & when I let off the throttle the bike backfires all the time. I have bought the FI2000 & it is set to the stock settings of 1,2,0. I have also tried it a bunch of different ways with no luck at all. It almost makes me wonder if that part does anything. Next I started reading on here and read that if you plug the pair valves it will stop the backfiring. This did help out alot but it still has not stopped the backfiring. Anyone else out there having this problem? Or do I just need to hurry up and get the cobra slashdown exhaust on it? Any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

Is it just in the low end? Mine only backfires in the low end when decelerating. As I was informed, this is called "reversion." The unburnt fuel is coming together with the air getting sucked up in the exhaust and causes the popping. It will never go away, even with a new exhaust.

Are you sure you are plugged into the injectors fully? Are lights on FC correct? What other mods do you have? ie Intake? Changing the settings on a wide range should be a noticable difference!

It should be plugged into the injectors correctly. The lights work properly when I turn the key all three light up & when I start it the green only is one. Then once I start cruising the yellow and green will light up & when I get into higher RPM's all three lights will light up. Other than that I have no other mods, I have the stock air filter on it & I drilled the baffles out of the stock exhaust.

I just finished having my fury fitted with the Samson warlorde back slash pipes and an Power commander V. Then we put it on the dino. I have ran it about 1500 miles and it has only popped 2 times and that I think was me. I am really impressed with the tone and look and everyone that has seen it love it. So I will tell you this, save your lunch money and spend the doe and go first class. you won't be sorry.

For your drilled out baffles here are some starting points for your Fi2000r:
A) 2-3-2.5 (i get a pop on decel very rarely)
B) 2-2-2.5 (trying this out today to keep it from being too rich)

my ultimate BFF setting is Setting A.
Just experimenting on the B grouping. If it runs the same as 'A' I'll keep the B setting- less rich might be better.

I'm not spending $$ on a dyno run-so this A-B configuration testing is my poor-man's dyno testing.

<added comment> tested the 'B' setting today--sux- popped repeatedly on lower gear decel.
Back to 'A' setting. Done. Finito.

I get popping--no backfiring.
reset my Fi20000000000000000r to 2-3-2.5 after trying another setting for the lad with the holey baffles.
I'm sticking with these numbers.
Kiowa, start with the settings the other Inferno owners recommend.
You're going to do just fine.

D. all of the above!

I get a grumble, some light popping under decell in the lower RPM of each gear. I get some really nice backfire if i wind the gear all the way up, and roll off. I used to worry about it, but it has been this way for the better part of a month, and after my 600 tune up the mechanic didnt say anything either.

i will say, i did the Pair Block off Plates and it did reduce some of the noise, but not entirely.

The grumbling and popping I'm not worried about, think it give it character and reminds me of glass packs on a truck, the backfiring is what is a little concerning, wonder if it's going to do any damage over the long haul, guess if you're aware of what causes it then you can just try and avoid doing that.

Oh, i am. If i shift early or mid range RPM i dont have any issue. If i wind it out, and then back off .. yeah i get one hell of a backfire ... gets peoples attention real quick.

some of it could also be PAIR valve issue, it pumps extra air to exhaust mix to allow the excess fuel to ignite causing a popping in the exhaust. with my pipes if im really rough i get a backfire that shoots about a 1ft flame out the pipes

Try taking out the FI2000 first off, and see if it corrects itself after disconnecting the battery. With the equipment you have, it might just do that...

Side note:

Sorry, have to say to get ride of that FI2000 POS and try another brand... hate that freagin thing, think we've seen more people wondering about setting and still having issues with that equipment than any other part here on the forums. Exactly why I went with another brand, hope you get it fixed, but don't count on it with that...

Well Burnen never said what type of exhaust he has, whether he has an aftermarket intake or anything else, he also didn't state whether he blocked the pair valve hose or actually put the plates in. Maybe it could be that he's not getting enough back pressure? I don't know about the Fi2000R being a piece of crap, and I think you're thinking that it has a lot of issues because it's the most widely used FC around here so more people talk about it than the others. Granted I don't have the hands on experience that most around here do, but I read just about everything so that I can try and understand and head off problems when I start all my mods in a couple of weeks. I think he could be helped more if he stated what exhaust, if he has an aftermarket intake, did he block the pair valve hose or install the plates, and what settings he's tried, I'm sure with all the smart guys around here someone can come up with something to help.

Well I agree that he said he did the pair valve blocking, but he didn't state whether he blocked the hose or installed the plates.

My gut sense says that it's not the Fuel Controller, but on the other hand, any port in a storm........

It actually sounds to me more like an exhaust leak (sucking air). Just my two-bits.......

By the way, I think you and I are the only one's on the Forum with TS/SCI/SIGMA clearances. Actually, that's not true; mine expired not long after my recent retirement. See NNSA and NEST/ARG/JTOT.

Cheers
