Since its getting warmer I have noticed a lot more places have asphalt than concrete. And those that have the asphalt lots dont have any concrete pads for bikes to park on, and if they do, some jackass on four wheels is parked on it.

So if you have to park on asphalt, how do you do it? Do you have some scrap metal plate or 1/2 a hockey puck to put the kick stand on?

I park on dirt, depending on how packed it is have no issues, if its soft i try finding a can to park on or some junk laying around the parking lot at work. Asphalt i didnt really think mattered much though

Yea... does anybody have a logical explanation as to why not to park it on asphalt? I know it might get a little mushy from the sun, but... maybe the angle that asphalt is usually at?...

Agree with Sea Dawg, just find another place to park it....

Straight, front uphill, first gear, no dirt, it may seem hard but it is a concentrated load on a small area, (# per sq in x time) and if it rains, you have soft dirt. Fresh asphalt is a no no, old ok. Get a hocky puck for your tool kit. One drop, One thousand $.

Here in florida they put small rock in asphalt so not prob here that i've seen, could be wrong. Different grade asphalt since you have snow and ice? I guess it's just be careful wherever you put the stand down!

I live in south florida and i have never really seen that, maby once ever but thats it. Im actually getting ready to buy a horse shoe for my bike planning on doing something like this, just incase for when im parked on dirt

Back pocket or jacket pocket (just gotta pick the right size shoe), They have them on ebay, (i can get horseshoes for free or close enough to it, So will DIY that) they have diamond plate on the bottom. I have a light weight textile jacket that i wear 90% of the time just incase anything would happen.

Well, I think imwright1985 had the best solution with his horseshoe. That should solve any parking problem, wouldn't it? Or, would the horseshoe also sink into hot pavement?

No, Steveo, It displaces the weight over a larger area, think of driving a nail into asphalt, not to hard, now place a 3 inch round plate down and try to hammer it in, can't. But your pickle was funny, I accept the blame.
