How should i paint them?

I purchased some scootworks risers a little while ago and I am ready to put them on. I already knew they looked a little cheap but I figured they would look o.k. I have been starring at them and know I can't bring myself to put them on as is. I got these because I like the rise on them better then the other selections but something needs to be done.
I decided to paint them black. I think it will go with the bike (matte silver) well. Only problem is I don't know much about painting metal. I don't know if I should get them done by a pro or do it myself? I certainly don't want the paint to come off. How would I go about doing it myself so they would last without chipping?
Also open to any other suggestions about making these things look better.
Thanks.

I asked Scootworks if they could chrome the risers for me, and they said it could be done at extra charge. I placed the order the first week of April, after numerous phone calls and emails, I am still, without risers....

Why dont you have them chrome plated so they match the bars & trees?
Could have them powder coated!
Another option is to have them powder coated black.Wouldnt be that expensive for those small pieces.
Hot pink... ;)

Hot pink or maybe a pretty powder blue?

NOT!!

But thanks for the suggestion RSS:D

If you are going with black I agree that the powder coating would be your best choice.
I would put them in chrome, if you want black, powder coat. If you want to do it yourself, read Big Johns thread Guide to Polishing, and get some white compound and a small buff wheel. 1/2 to 1 hr job. Caswell Polishing for supplies. They did not finish the polishing on these.
I have the stuff for polishing them, have you gotten the factory exhaust yet to put on screaming eagles?? I found another set, called Indy choppers. haven't seen them yet tho

Thanks for the help everyone.
I think I will try tp polish them first and if I still don't like them I will powder coat.

MFR,
I do have the exhaust! I still need about 5 weeks before I get a free weekend.
Get a hold of me in 3 or 4 weeks or I will get a hold of you if I don't here from you and we got to set something up. Look foward to it.
Thanks.

I will go by there today and get them put on hold or layaway pending how much they want for them and condition

Do you have a company you suggest that does this? I avoided these because of the complaints in looks, but if I can get them to match the bars I may try them. I like this look better than the big block look.
Well, you need a regular chrome co, not show chrome, or they will make the rest of your chrome on the trees look sick. All I can say is avoid Chrome Pros. I believe they are in Texas.
Just dropped them off for powder coat. Only 35 bucks.
I wrapped black paper around the risers and set them next to the handle bars.
It looked damn good. IMO.
I'll have them on by mon, tue. I'll post pics.

Yes, yes they do... ;)

But everything MrByber has is pink, so a little black will set everything off from a design perspective. :)
