So I read that someone used fishing line to remove the reflectors. I tried it without using heat and as I pulled the line through the double sided tape underneath the reflector, it heated up considerably and burned the paint. After using "Mothers" scratch remover it doesn't look so bad and even though noone else has noticed it, I know it's there. My father always told me I wasnt the sharpest bulb on the tree.

Stick you a bullet hole decal over it

Don't feel so bad

Most of us have some scar when removing the darn things. I had to put Goo-B-Gone on and let it sit overnight to work. I tried 30 mins of heat to no avail. I've got imperfections in the topcoat from where the goo ate away at it. No worries just add a few coats of wax. Just think how much better it looks (even with the imperfections!)

I feel your pain. I was taking off my reflectors (so the reflector police, Richard, won't give me any crap) :) with my heat gun and I was tired and wasn't paying attention to where I was holding my heat gun as I was distracted by something and somewhat melted my rear fender in a little spot.....needless to say when it rains for a few days in a row I am doing some body work and some re-painting :(

i have found that there are a couple tricks that will work.

1) use the fishing line like was mentioned. It doesnt break as easily as floss.

2) if you are using floss, take out a foot or 2. Wrap almost all of it on one finger on one hand, then just enough to catch on the other finger on the other hand. This way, as it breaks you can simply back some off the reserve finger.

3) Using GooGone. Once the relfectors/plastic item is removed, you can try using a thumb nail and GENTLY scraping off the foam part of the tape. Once the bulk is gone, soak the gluey spot with the GooGone. Hold a towel underneath the gluey spot to catch the excess GooGone. Let this sit for about 7-10 minutes.

4) after soaking, try using your thumb nail again to remove more of the foam. Resoak ... follow step 3.

5) after doing this a couple times, i use an old sock and turn it inside out. The inside is usually a rougher weave of cotton, and works like Brillo to take off the glue. Once the glue is broken up, i now turn the sock right side out and use the tighter weave of the cotton to give the area a good wipe down.

6) when all glue is gone, follow the area up with a cleaner. I use Simple Green and a clean cloth.

* should you drop your cleaning cloth, get a new one. You will catch the smallest piece of dirt, and then rub your clear coat raw scratching the ever living hell out of it. I did this to my 2000 Neon years ago .. and i literally looked like

** keep in mind the clear coat can scratch real easy. This includes using your finger nails. Be firm, but gentle.

the paint guys took mine off, but when they did, they pulled a chunk of plastic off with it. they fixed it before paint but i still think it's funny :D i took the rest of the reflectors/stickers off myself with no problems, just some patience

1. sharpest tool in the box
2. brightest bulb on the tree

but anyway

1. park bike in bright sunshine
2. fishing line
3. wd 40
4. lucas slick mist

Well I still have the other reflector on the other side. I think i'll try heat and floss. I had read about a few people scratching the fender with pliers so i'll stay away from that method. Thanks everyone for your input.

I used the time honored pliers method to remove my reflectors. You do have to be careful on the rear fender ones but if you leave your bike out in the sun for about an hour so it can heat up, they twist right off. Even the double sided tape.. Of course, I'm in Southeast Texas where the sun sits approximately 1 1/2 miles above the Earth so your results may vary.......
