Thursday nights we ride up to a nearby golf course which hosts a BBQ with live music n stuff like that. All cars park in a designated lot but bikes pull up in the circle and are allowed to park around that circle. It's great pulling around the entrance as everyone's checkin' out your ride.
At one point .......... we all looked up and saw 3 BigDogs coming in and pulling around into the circle. It was like hundreds of people stopped what they were doing and dropped their jaws. I mean I have to tell you guys that I even was like ......... OH SHHHIT! The presence was overwhelming and the 300 rear wheels and monster chrome were seriously sickening to look at. One dude with the Wolf happened to put it next to mine and it made my Fury look like a toy. Don't get me wrong, I am a diehard Honda Fury enthusiast and really enjoy my ride, however, I must say I was freakin' blown away by the power of the pressence.
After this one particular dude was surrounded like a celebrity and answered all the dumb ass questions by onlookers, I had the opportunity to chill with him when he walked back over to check his neon lights. He knew I was an owner of one of the bikes so we had a good conversation. He finally asked which one was mine and I said - right next to yours, the Fury. He was kool and checked it out and was impressed. I found that he was not "stuck-up" or anything like that as he also mentioned that this seemed to be a great looking ride, especially for the $$$. His BigDog was over $50K with the mods/airbrushing, etc. To see this bike in person was amazing, speaking from my own biker respect and appreciation.
So he says ......... go ahead bro, sit on her and see how she feels. I did and it was a huge difference, obviously. Again, I was impressed but perfectly fine with my ride to my right. Performance wise he mentioned some of the general pros n cons that were always mentioned in previous threads. I think I was even bashing the BD's at some point.
I think this ride is all about the pressence, all about pulling up and the jaws dropping. This is what a chopper is supposed to do. We all know that when we pull up places we get the stares too, however, I had to shake my head because there is no comparison to "pressence" between the two. This is just my opinion and I love our rides and the reliability factor - it was just kool to see this in person hooked up as it was and to actually get a kool owner who was able to actually have a conversation.

Cool experience and I totally agree with you about presence... that is why I have been slowly adding things to my ride to improve the presence of it and I'm slowly getting there. I actually had a couple of guys the other night pass up some of the big dogs that were by my bike and come over to talk to me. Let me rephrase that, they were waiting for me by my bike when I came back from walking around and had no interest in the big dog parked next to me... and there were 2 of the big dog bikes, which I thought too were very nice (one was blue and pearl white, the white looked like it was like a cream... very impressive paint job). They were so amazed at what I had done with a Honda Fury and were extremely curious about how much it cost me for the mods and how much the base bike cost. They kept pointing over to a stock Fury and were just like wow... It can be done, we just need to put a little more effort into it than the Big Dog owner's is all... Reminds me, need to start taking pics at these events... some impressive rides by where I live...

Real frame up choppers are a piece of art to look at for sure! I just can't afford the cost nor do I want the loss of performance. I have been fortunate...my bike has been well recieved everywhere I've been, including HD and chopper guys. Most think it is a frame up custom! :D Like others have said, with the base price and some modifications, this bike can be real eye candy too and at a fraction of the price and all of the performance of a HONDA!!!;)

Well said, I agree. The "pressence" factor was incredible to witness, that's all I was trying to relay.

50 grand?! Ridiculous, I'd by 100 things before that... But hey, if ya got it spend it... This is my 11th bike and I love it the most
$50K is fine for some people, especially those who retire and plan to do this as a gift to themselves for working their whole life. At least this is what he told me as just a regular guy who wanted this. $50K is a lot for Fury owners with families and everyday struggles. When retired, I'll be on a Wolf or whatever the "ultimate pressence" bike is at that point - 16 years - 2026. LOL

I agree with your opening statement 100%. I have often thought about pulling the trigger on a Big Dog. Hopefully there will be some better mods coming down the road that will give us better "stage presence". The other day I passed one going the opposite direction and could tell it was a chopper from a mile away.

Think part of the problem is that we are used to our bikes now... I had people taking pictures again of my bike the other day, just like they were of the big dogs... Some of it is our state of minds unfortunately. But, as you said... some of the newer mods that are coming out for our bike should improve the presence of our bikes and why do you guys keep misspelling that damn word... asshats...

I agree with you red. When I looked at the pic's Mike just posted in the "4th of July" thread, I thought to myself, those are nice looking bikes.

What spelling are talking about?

Your about modded out aren't you Richard? Get that 8 degree on there and the bike will look much bigger I would think? What could you really do after that?
I think RSS is right. You get yourself in a crowd of bikes and ours will defiantly stand out among the best. Especially those of you with the sumo.
It's that state of mind where you always want what you don't have because we are used to ours.
I am sure other riders are going "Holy shit, look at that bike" when we ride in and thinking just like we are.:D

PRESENTS? YES, I AM BEING A SMART ASS.:D

That's the deal right there. We are used to our bikes. If we all had big dogs and we saw something better, we would be admiring that bike and think that ours didn't have that "prezants factor". :D

Seriously, I never thought I would be riding a bike this nice, but yeah, I've been getting used to it and not appreciating it as much as I once did. It's just the way it goes. I love the bike, but there's always something better.

As RSS put it "...I never thought I would be riding a bike this nice..." There are a lot of great rides out there, but as far as I'm concerned, the best bike is the one I'm sittin on! Over the years, I had a few bikes, and each was the greatest at the moment. Big Dogs and customs are all super cool, but the older I get the less time I want to spend drooling over something I'll probably never be able to afford. I'd rather just enjoy life...as for bikes, I'm very much enjoying my Bitchin Blue Fury (with just over 400 miles in the last two weeks and plenty of looks...) I doubt if another name or a little more displacement would make a huge diff...but I could be wrong:D

Not including dirt schtuff, my favorite bikes have been:

1972 Honda CB350 Four
1986 Ducati 750F1 Desmo
1987 Honda Hurricane 600
2007 Suzuki Boulevard C50

Of course there is my current favorite...2010 Honda Fury.

you guys also have to remember, there is lots of money here on the Island and in the NYC area. Its not uncommon to go out on a Thurs night and find a make-shift car show of sorts ... and most of them are high end frame off builds costing 60K+. They are almost a dime a dozen. The bikes are almost as plentiful. Sure there are some nice HDs .. and other customs, but ill stick with my Fury.

Had you told me earlier this year that i would 1 be on a bike and 2 that it would be this nice i would have told you that you were NUTS! I have no regrets, and if it wasnt so damn hot out i would be riding and not here typing.

there's at least one guy with more than you got; but, consider this:
there are a ton of folks standing way behind us wishing they had what we have.

<hate it when i sound preachy==no stage pheasants at all>
