Let me begin this by saying that this forum has been a HUGE help to me over the last few weeks since I bought my Fury. While I am just beginning my journey into customizing my bike, this site has made it much easier instead of going it alone. I am however, stuck...

I have Cobra swepts and was looking to remove the baffles so I did a search and tried all the methods on the forum that I could find:

coathangers
1/8" steel rod with bent tip
heat up the pipe first then give it a go
etc...

I was successful in getting the top baffle to come out about 1 and 1/2" but it wont budge any further. I'm scared to even try the bottom baffle for fear of getting it stuck as well. Now I cant even put the baffle screw back in because its not lined up. Just to clarify, you do hook one of the round shaped holes lining the baffle to pull it out right? I tried just pulling the rod and when that didn't work, hooking it with vice grips and banging on it with a hammer but no dice.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

The baffle is curved to the angle of the pipe. You may have it wedged in there. Use something to knock it back into place. Hook the baffle on top and yank a couple of times, then hook on the bottom and do the same. This should keep it coming out straight.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'm headed out to the garage to give it another try. On a side note, does anyone have Cobra Swepts, stock air, and an Fi2000 that could help me out with a starting point for the pot settings? Mine is set on the factory settings now and I know that each bike is a little different but at least I would have somewhere to start.

".......Cobra Swepts, stock air, and an Fi2000...." 1-2-1, and you'll be good, but you better have your PAIR Valve blocked.

Cheers

I too had trouble removing my baffles on cobra swepts...
I got the top one out a little more easy....thick wire, and bent hook on end...wrapped the other end around a long screwdriver and pulled like hell...foot was on rear tire for leverage and to keep bike rolling back...it took serious pulling..
However the bottom baffle wasn't as easy....(Tried coathanger, but it wouldn't hold)
I had to use the same wire...but it kept straightening out the hook because the pulling was so hard..
I finally rode the bike for 30 min to heat up the pipes....hoping this would expand the pipes to allow baffle removal...it did help....
I used same wire..clamped vise grips on other end and used hammer to tap baffle out...it did take several attempts...but it worked...
I use the fi2000 set to factory default and stock air cleaner....
Not a problem so far.....hope this helps..

I finally gave up and took the bike back to the dealer to let them remove the baffles. The tech emerged about 5 and 1/2 hours later and I'm sure I heard him mutter something like "%[email protected]" under his breath. He did get the baffles out but I think I have wore my welcome thin at that shop:)

For anyone sitting on the fence about removing their baffles, do it. It sounds freakin awesome. Thanks for all the help guys. BTW, I am running my Fi2000 at the stock settings and I have absolutely no popping, gurgling, or any other strange noises so for those who were wondering.....

You know how many times I’ve had mechanic’s come at me mumbling something? Get used to it. Unfortunately, most of them don’t mumble at me, it’s more fits of rage with a little heart felt anger. Remember, your paying their salary. They'll get you one way or anouther.

On the decel... do you have a muttering of any kind? I know the excel is louder, but how bout that decel "muttering" or loudness... ??? If so, did you go with some power or torque cones?

It has a slightly louder decel note but it's not "different"...Just a little louder. I was really expecting to hear some backfiring or popping but I haven't heard anything like that. If I get on it really hard and then let off I will get a little gurgling but it isn't bad at all. I haven't changed or added anything.

Maybe where you live (altitude) has something to do with it. I'm at sea level here but who knows, the mystery of small engines eludes me:)

On a side note, my buddy has a Precision Cycle Works custom and he doesn't like his exhaust now..... He doesn't think it's loud enough.
