Need Input

I would like some input. I have an idea to make the bike look lower. I do not like the gap between the fender and the tire. The somo-x kit is the look I am going for and may end up going that way. In the mean time I would like to try this mod. My plan is to put two cuts in the tail section. Push it down to a closer fit. Then wield it back up. I would love some input. Does anyone see any reason why this will not work.

I have thought about that also , to this day I beleive it will work . The seat would have to be reworked to fit the new contour , mayby a few other adjustments . Keep us updated .
1. Will you have enough travel for tire with stock stock setup so tire does not rub.
2. Will you have enough support for fender for 2up.
3. Seat saddle would be slightly smaller.
4. You would have to add some top support to the left of tape.
I was also thinking about this when I was installing the RAW tail light. Is the fender flexable enought? I think you would need to cut a little more forward right where the front edge of fender sits on the frame other wise I'd think the fender would have a tendency to bow out at point of the bend.
Tony, I would check with L&M since they have been all over the rear shock. The question I would ask Chris is "How much clearance is there between the tire and stock fender at full compression ?" That would give you a giudeline for your mod. I believe Kurt's fender on his Sumo 250 kit is deeper inside which helps contour it to the tire and still give it the travel clearance it needs. It is also a bit lower so you at least have that amount to play with.
I dont know what it is at full compression but with no one on the bike there is 5 1/4"....aslo looking into it a little more I think I will need to notch the bottom Instead . If I just do the cuts the seat will not clip into the front by the tank.
You said you plan to go with the sumo-x kit.... if you do this mod, will that affect installation of the sumo-x fender later on down the road?
If you cut at tape to lower rear of fender, you produce a cantilever point and front of fender left of tape must rise and kick out and up slightly. There for you might have to mod seat?

No… That is my way out if I fail. When the Somo-X kit is installed you have to cut it back farther.

The Fender only makes contact at 4 places. One at the front and then at each U shape bracket. I dont thing it will be a factor..
If you have any problems, tell Kurt you know me and maybe he’ll knock a few $$’s off. LOL:)

Thinking cut at a angle and you would lower the fender frame straight down , Then modify the fender to fit and seat , cant explain on this keypad LOL . Good luck .
