Okay, Guys

This vendor sells a temp/dipstick for the Honda for the VTX1300. I checked with my dealer here in Scottsdale and he said the P/N is the same for both the VTX and our Fury. Based on that, I'm gonna order one right now.....I know we can't control our oil temps, but it's sorta' "trick"......

Motorcycle Accessory Design Co. - Temp-Stick

Cool, when you get it picks and an update bro... I have been curious about this for a little while now as it gives the bike a different look, let us know :D

I agree, plus it would be interesting to see the difference in engine temps if you have the gauge prior to changing to synthetic.....
Good question.

I've used synthetic in some of my vehicles in the past, so I'm not against it in any way. I spent quite some time discussing oil with my dealership. They've been around motorcycles "forever" We came to an agreement, the way 'I' take care of the motor, I'd stick with the regular Honda factory oil. As soon as the dipstick shows some color....(around 2000 miles) I change it and the filter. My service department offers their customers $29.95 for parts and labor.....out the door. Can't go wrong with this IMHO. Just my $0.02 worth of ideas on oil.

Yeah, I was looking at the owner's manual to see what I need to do for the 4k mark...was surprised it didn't say to change oil. Still might do it anyway.....I've never used synthetic but have heard good things about it if you choose the right one.....I thought it'd be interesting to see the change in engine temp when I finally do go synthetic (probably after this year)....I just like the idea of having a temp gauge rather than an idiot light.....heck, I still don't know if my fan comes on.....

I used to own a Cadillac CTS-V. They recommended Mobil 1 for the engine. If I used the "oil life remaining" indicator I could go nearly 8000 miles between changes....I didn't. As soon as the oil got visably dirty (around 2500 miles), I changed it....Here's a short clip of me at Milan Dragway in Michigan.....((car was not stock)) LOL

Thanks Bill

I just checked with my dealership and they say the P/N is the same. I'm gonna go to your website and place an order.

If, in the odd chance it doesn't fit, can I get a refund?

Thanks

I received and installed my temp dipstick Friday and found the bike running at a steady temp. of 200 degrees. I'm running with synthetic oil and curious as to what temp Jimmy and others are running at and what type of oil.

Dave, thanks for posting that. Are you happy with the quality? I'm enroute to Greenland and Iceland today for 3 weeks......perhaps a 'tad' cooler than Phoenix this time of the year. I'm gonna' install mine when I return to AZ and will report back to everyone here. 200 sounds like a good temp to me.

Yeah, I have a Turbo Cobalt SS which came with Mobile 1...same deal....oil life indicator will let you go like 8000 miles. That indicator goes off mileage and not the condition of the oil.

I think it is of good quality however I did have a slight problem with it and you might want to check yours when it arrive. It comes in two pieces and the center dipstick rod also acts as the sensor for the temp. gauge and once it slides through the main base there is a small set screw that tightens holds the the rod into the base. It took my a while to figure out was was going on but the inside threads had some old casting left behind preventing the set screw to seat and hold the rod in properly. I had to run a tap down through it to clean it out. I do like it and its a great idea to know the oil temp. Let me know what temp. yours is running at once you install it.

Dave can you take a picture of this on the bike so we can see how it looks, no hurry as I know it's Sunday and most people relax today, I probably won't get this but just curious to how it looks on the bike, thanks.

Dave,

I'm interested in the dipstick. Quality good? I'm due for a 4k mile oil change and was considering going to the oil Clueless uses (the honda synthetic)....would like to check the temp before the switchover to see any diff, etc....do you like the dipstick? Would definitely like to see pics if you can swing it. If you like it and recommend it, then I'll get one and post the temps before the switchover and afterward....did you have to mod anything on it, or is it the right length for our motors?

Was that at a stand still warm up or were you riding around and for how long... what was the temperature that day and is that a median temperature for the oil over a range of temps?... yadda yadda... oh, I'm interested too in a pic...
