Ok, I'm done reading now...

I've read most all this site I reckon. Still leaning hard toward getting the Fury. Deciding on what mods to make can get overwhelming at times. Seems like most the mods I have seen you all do look fine to me. I guess it's a matter of preference.

I like the Cobra swept pipes and C&C seat (called Chuck, may get the distressed brown leather solo). A Switch Blade quick detach windshield for the longer trips. I remember how brutal it got on the long hauls on my fatboy without a shield.

That's probably all I will do at first, ride awhile and see what the bike tells me.

Anyway, I have a question for you mechanical motor head types. It sounds like that when I go to modifying the exhaust and intake, I need to remap/retune (whatever, the power commander or fuggin deally)....anyway, is that absolutely necessary? If so, at what point?

I guess what I'm asking is........If I start out with the factory intake and just put on the Cobra pipes, will it run fine just like that? Seems like some of you experienced some popping and weird motor stuff when you changed pipes without doing the remapping, dunno; I may be way off.

please advise, I don't want to get a fury and be running it lean or something just to get a better sound from the motor.

My understanding is, you can do aftermarket pipes with out the commander as long as you have stock intake and leave the bafs in. Change either of those 2 and you need to do a commander.
You apparently didn't read enough on this site about stock air cleaners, exhaust, & fuel controllers..

This topic has been beat up, beat on, beat out, and if I'm not mistaken some very good rhetoric back and forth happened in there somewhere..

Depending on how loud you want w/ baffles, Id recommend hearing the cobra's (since you seem to like the look) and if its a bit quiet go with the Sampsons Street Sweepers

I would get a fuel controller when you start any mods, the bike is naturally tuned ralatively close to lean and when you start making any mods it runs pretty hot, causing fan to kick on more and pipes to blue easily. Either way if your going to do any engine mods your eventually going to need a fuel controller so if you start off with one when you do your first mod you can progressively tune it then get everything done and send it to an actual tuning shop to get final tune done. Currently Dynojet has maps for stock, and Just cobra Swept pipes, supposidly they have one for the Sampson street sweepers or hellraisers too but i cant find it on their site

You will have a little more popping then with a controller, the popping is mostly from the pair valve (you can use search function to learn about that)

I held off on getting my PCV for about a month after pipes, Wish i woulda started with that since i ended up getting one anyways and was running the bike lean for a period of time. With the PCV I ran with just the cobra map, then finally took the time to more accuratly tune it based on thermal properties of the bike (I had a few days off, and have the capibility of doing that) Im ordering an intake soon, and once installed w/ Pair valve removal sending to the dynoshop. Beyond that im not doing anymore engine work for a few years probably then doing the HP kit so wont need any modification to tuning for a while. If your patient though you could save up about 1500 and get everything done at same time (600ish pipes, 300 for intake, 250 for Fuel controler, and the rest for Dyno time and other Misc things that may come up)

Read the FAQ........ :eek::eek::eek::eek:

Q: What do I need a fuel controller for, what parts do I have to replace to justify buying a fuel controller?

A: Here is the general consensus on this situation from the forums:

**Also refer to the pair valve/backfiring FAQ to answer this question with another solution**

1. Stock air intake, Aftermarket Pipes with baffles - No Fuel Controller Necessary.
2. Stock air intake, Aftermarket Pipes WITHOUT baffles - Need a Fuel Controller.
3. Stock pipes, Aftermarket air intake - No Fuel Controller Necessary.
4. Aftermarket Pipes with baffles, Aftemarket air intake - Need a Fuel Controller.
5. Aftermarket Pipes WITHOUT baffles, Aftemarket air intake - Need a Fuel Controller.

Q: Why is my bike backfiring after I replaced the stock pipes or air intake?

A: Either your fuel to air mixture is off, correct this with a fuel controller or it can be the pair valve, you would need to remove the pair valve and install a cover from here: VTX-Parts 1300 & 1800 Honda VTX Custom Motorcycle Parts, Pair Valve Covers, Radiator Grill Covers, Exhaust System Covers, Reed Valve Covers, Polished Stainless Steel, Polished Aluminum, Chrome to fix the issue. Get the one with the "dimples". Here is the link inside the forum so you can see the results from a Fury owner here: Pair valve removed

Q: What type of gas should I use in the Fury?

A: Owner's Manual says 86 octane (U.S. Rating), use as close as you can to this! DO NOT USE 91 OR 93 OR WHATEVER TYPE OF OCTANE GAS THAT YOU THINK THAT IS RIGHT FOR THE BIKE (INSIDE U.S.) , THE MANUFACTURER'S OF THIS BIKE HAVE MORE MECHANICAL KNOWLEDGE OF THIS BIKE THAN YOU DO! thank you imwright, daRe, and Jnukes. That is the clarification I was looking for. Sounds like I should just kick out for the fuel controller up front, and maybe look into the Samson's too. I apprecieate your help.

Tony, apparently, you didn't read my post clearly. I simply requested some clarification. Nobody really needs somebody bashing them for "asking a question that was already asked" ...........on A FORUM!

isn't that what forums are for? communication between folks with similar situations looking for solutions to their specific topic? come on, what is with this "DO NOT ASK A QUESTION IF IT HAS ALREADY BEEN ASKED CRAP"?

If you don't feel like answering somebodies question, why not just refrain from posting to it? Not much sense in being a keyboard commando........Hey! that topic has already been covered enough! Just because you feel the topic has been "beat up, beat on, beat out" to the point that it is crystal clear in your mind doesn't mean that's the end of the topic does it?......... We have to read what is there and if we still have questions...........figure it out without requesting a little more clarity? Be serious, "use your search button", lol, give me a break.

Now, if you are the forums "repetitive question monitor", do me a favor; just delete my post, no need to attempt to smack my hand with a ruler.

Believe me, if I knew the answer, I wouldn't have asked the question. Did you ever stop to think that perhaps I don't know enough about the topic to do an effective search, that perhaps after hours each day of reading and days on end of it all, that i remained somewhat confused and decided I would simply employ the intent of a forum and ask for specific advice and help?

one more thing Tony. What do you mean by "YOU NEW PEEPS"?

I used my search button and found absolutely no clarification. I have no idea what that means.
I think he is referring to you as new due to the fact you are still in the single digits of posts.

Yar.... plus he's probably got a couple of beers in him atm, and tolerance goes down at that rate... anyways, FAQ away... :p

ah, ok....yeah, I'm a one digit midget for sure. that may explain why I'm a little behind the fury info wave huh?

Just tryin to catch up as quick as possible.

sorry all. I will attempt to learn by using my search button rather than simply asking a question. I understand, you 3 and 4 digit giants want to come on here and read something new and brilliantly innovative. To hell with the dude that is reaching out and trying to learn and understand, especially one that apparently doesn't use his search button enough.

would that be a nip slip?
can we please get back to normal!? who's the poster girl RSS and why did you wait so long to post-her?

Look, I was not singling you out. When you make a statement like you read this forum, then ask the question that you did, it appeared you didn't use the search button.
Or was overwhelmed with the results and didn't try refining your search.

I should of said, hey welcome to the forums instead.
There is a wealth of knowledge in this forum and the search button is key in finding it.

Sorry to put you on the defenses, maybe I need to quit contributing to this forum.
I'll let everyone else regurgitate the info to all the new members.
My apologies..

Today everyone wants the answer right now. Nobody wants to put in the work to find the answer. The funny thing about looking for the answer, is that you may learn more things while searching.
If your planning on acquiring this bike, part of owning something new is learning about it along the way..

Good luck

by the way..
