I used to have a VT1100 Shadow. The fake bolt-on cylinder fins on that bike never got very hot, so clearly they were for decoration only.

I notice that on the Fury, the cylinder head fins are also bolt-on fakes, but the cylinder fins are cast as part of the cylinder block. I also notice that they get hot, so clearly they are dissipating some of the engine heat (way more than the fake cylinder fins on my old Shadow).

Are the 'standard' non-Fury VTX1300 fins also cast as part of the cylinder block ? I'm just curious to know if they had to cast the fins on the Fury for cooling help because of the smallish radiator.

It's kind of nice having cylinder fins that are 'real' cylinder fins for change...

The VTX also has fins on the cylinders, and they do get hot, but I think they are more for looks than anything else, I thought they had the same, but the P/Ns are diff for the Fury. but maybe they do help at highway speeds

If they're getting hot, they must be helping to cool some of the water !
Maybe someday I'll try and measure the fin temperature at normal operation and see what it reads.
