Sorry for your loss. I found this poem along time ago, figured I would throw it up here to share. I hope it brings a smile to your face as it does mine.
My best friend closed his eyes last night,
As his head was in my hand.
The Doctors said he was in pain,
And it was hard for him to stand.
The thoughts that scurried through my head,
As I cradled him in my arms.
Were of his younger, puppy years,
And OH...his many charms.
Today, there was no gentle nudge
With an intense "I love you gaze",
Only a heart thats filled with tears
Remembering our joy filled days.
But an Angel just appeared to me,
And he said, "You should cry no more,
GOD also loves our canine friends,
HE's installed a 'doggy-door"!
That's to bad Mike. I know how you feel brother. I lost my German Shepard "Simon" 25 years ago. I was only a kid but he was bought for me by my parents and we grew up together. I almost couldn't handle the loss being that young. But to this day I can still picture him and picture certain moments. Brings a smile every time! I love that I have those pictures in my head.
Sorry to hear about the loss Mike, glad to hear that you got to spend the last little bit of time with her and I'm sure that helped her and comforted her, at least she's not suffering and in a good place now.
