Put on some cobra slashdowns and love them... but tightened the acorn nuts to my version of tight. No leaks, everythings cool,until I read the shop manual (after the fact) and it says to only tighten to 17 ft/lbs.... I'm sure mine are tighter than that! So, this is my question, will having the acorns nuts too tight f**k anything up, should I get new crush gaskets and start over or just leave it alone?

Nay, I tightened mine down pretty good too... also have two crush washers on there.. one on there by accident of course... 
I just wouldn't go too much further if I were you & check it again in a week for leaks.

honestly I think that is more for safety and to prevent not only you stripping them but the possibility is breaking them off if you have to remove later on. I think you'll be fine.

Although I have two torque wrench sitting in my tool chest I never pull them out for use unless I was involved with the torque down a cylinder head or another critical component that it was absolutely crucial toward torque ft lbs.

!0 ft lbs = 1 short grunt
20 ft lbs = 2 short grunt
30 ft lbs = 3 long grunts
For 30 to 100 lbs

Brand new Demon air filter, put it on and took a photo and took it off put it back in the box on the shelf. It does look pretty cool looking and I think I posted a photo of it somewhere. it it will make a nice addition to someones bike for $100 if they want it. Never fall in love with something that can't love you back!!
