The T- mod would satisfy both of my requirements above. I had not considered it, even though it is right up my alley.

I will look harder at this when I can get the bike to the workshop - too wet...

I decided that I could do this in the yard...
Before:

I dropped it a tick over 2 inches.

After:

No one mentioned the one issue with this mod...you can no longer access the fender bolts for the factory sissy bar without jacking it up. No room for a hand under that fender.

As for the back rest, does make sense but as I don't use one never crossed my mind.

Yes. I adjusted the shock softer while I was in there, and the ride is good with no rubbing, even over our horrible county roads. I did have to bend the beaver tail out about 1/2 inch.
