So I reeaallly want to do my valve adjustment so I can ride tomorrow since the weather is so nice, but my damn manual hasn't been delivered yet!

Can anyone verify if the procedure and spec's are the same as the VTX 1300? Found the write up on VTX Cafe, but want to make sure the clearances and timing marks are the same.

Thanks!

Are your valve’s far enough out of whack that you can’t ride? Can’t help with the procedure, wish I could.:)

It is basically the same, same specs and all, Removing the tank and pair assy is a little different. And you need to remove the center of the front cyl covers before the sides. If you have less than 1000 miles on it I wouldn't worry about it and wait for the manual.

If it has less than 1200 on it you are fine. Most "real" mechanics suggest that you don't run the valves until 1K. I ran mine at 1150 and they were well within "allowable" spec. with minor adjustments required.

Thanks everyone. Got a free oil change around 500 miles when honda replaced my left side cover due to bubbled chrome :)

Only have just under 800 miles on it, and the valves are still plenty noisy, I just feel better knowing for sure.

I had my valves checked at a little over 600 miles and no adjustments were required. I have changed my diff fluid twice.......very dirty the first time, a little cleaner the second....I'm using Mobil Synthetic in the diff......very easy to service, BTW....

Guess it determines on a number of various factors... maybe the best thing to do is have your dealer look at it during your next "pit stop". I have about 10,500 miles on my bike now, and have a "thumbs up" from my dealer that I have no issues and my valves are running perfectly fine. I have not had my valves changed or adjusted either. - Side note just in case you ask: I run 87 octane gas, Synthetic/Petro blend for my oil and "other" spark plugs that Honda recommends for long highway running, P/N **** 07 (the spark plugs that run cooler, can't remember the exact P/N at this time).

But again, just get a check up @ your local dealer shop and find out for sure if any of you have any issues. I found that the pinging sound is fairly typical for this bike the first few thousand miles and calms down after the second "non-starter" oil change and maintenance at around 8k miles. Again, a quick dealer check up may be in order.

Also Honda says the pinging will be a typical thing that will happen with this bike under continuous loads, and if it does not go away (or get's deafeningly louder) after given time to adequately cool down or the load lessens, then you should have your dealer check out the vehicle to check spark plugs and also other issues that may have arisen such as excessive oil wear.

Hope this helps some of you.

Steveo, If you brought your bike in to the dealership for you 800 mile check up they would have checked and adjusted the valves then. If you didn't it would probably be a god idea to have it professionally looked at. I'm not sure of how much of a bang for the buck one actually gets for the cost of that 800 mile check up but I don't think that its worth questioning should you develop at problem.

i got the service pack from my dealer so they take care of it for me.good luck.
Am I wrong here or shouldn't this be covered under the 1yr/unlimited mileage warranty? What do you mean by "service pack"?
