Can anyone recommend a small overnight or weekend bag that would strap on or velcro on the oem small sissybar? Would have to be rather small and would be nice if waterproof.....

They make great tour bags...big and small.
I carried this one all the time. You'd be amazed how much "stuff" I could pack in there.

Likewise, really need somethign to hang off the backside of the pad rest without damaging frear fender paint.

I got the First Gear tail bag from the honda dealer for my shadow but used it on the fury until the hard bags came in.

it has velcro straps on the bottom so you don't have to use the bungees.
it straps down solid and is expandable, a good quality bag for $120.

fits over the oem sissybar and rests on the pillion seat.

Here's an old shot of my bike, pre-mod, with the bag on the oem sissybar. It holds my helmet and raingear, overnight clothes, etc.

I use the the Kuryakyn Tombstone bag. It had enough room for a 3-day trip. The backrest is nice to have for long rides and it comes with three different sized back pads for people of different heights. Really like this bag.

I find no holes or prob. with zippers. Been sitting in my garage about two years....dusty and cold.
