WTF!?! Front turn signal wiring

18204 Views 52 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  Furious Ride
Im replacing my stock front turn signals with LED signals and no matter how ive wired them up I either blow the fuse or the turn signal wont light, the rear will blink but the front never changes. Ive tried the wire splice, blows the fuse, when I hook up the ground and the running light wires, nothing happens but the rear signal will blink, as soon as I switch the wire to the turn signal wire, blows the fuse. HELP PLEASE!!!

Sounds like you are you have got something hooked up wrong shorting out with your hot wire grounding out. What kind of Led lights are you installing what is the number and colors of the wires you working with? Are you using a load equalizer are are you going to let them blink fast?.
Im using Bike Master "LED Flat cateye" signals which are two wire, black and yellow. Im gonna let the blink fast, ive already replaced the rears with these same signals and no problems.
Yeah I hooked up the fronts the same as the rear, light blue to yellow and green to black but thats when the fuse blows, the only time it doesnt is when I go yellow to light blue with white stripe but then nothing happens at all

Well then you have a short somewhere, might be in the LED assembly from the sound of it... try disconnecting each assembly till the problem goes away.

So im still having the problem with the LED signals but when I hooked up a standard bulb turn signal it blinked fine with out blowing the fuse, I tried using both of the LED signals from the pack and neither of them worked, only the extra standard bulb signal I tried, are the LED signals shot? they were brand new out of the package
Looking at the wiring diagram, there are three wires going to each front turn signal. The oem bulbs are dual element, position light and turn signal. Try putting your hot wire to the light blue/white wire on the right signal and the hot wire on the orange white wire for the left signal. you wont have any light until the turn signal is activated. That's my guess.

I think he is running his new led's to the the two hot wires that being running light hot and direction light light hot instead you need to hook it up to directional light hot and green ground. Leave the other hot parking light wire alone.
Ive got the ground wire hooked up and not messing around with it the only wire im switching back and forth to is the light blue with a white stripe and the solid light blue wire, the LED light is breaking my balls why would the standard signal light right up?

It would help if you indicate which LED blinkers you have.
Some LED arrays are not 12 volt DC compatible and only 3 to 5 VDC.
Would blow a fuse..
Im using Bike Master "LED Flat cateye" I used the same signals on the rear of the bike without any issues
Mitch, for testing purpose only put a jumper from your new led ground side directly to the bike frame then run your led hot side to the directional hot wire and see if you blow the fuse.
Still nothing/ blown fuse
Just like was mentioned here ... lemme see i if i can help.

Right Front has 3 wires.

Green = ground ( wire the black from the new LED to this )
Blue = turn signal ( wire this one to the yellow wire off the new LED )
Blue with a white stripe. This is the running light function. Unless you want all 4 turn signals on and the indicators on on your speedo DO NOT HOOK THIS WIRE UP. Cut it flush and wrap it with tape.

Left Side .... same thing BUT instead of blue your wires are now orange.

The rear signals have no solid blue or orange with a tracer, as they are not wired for running lights.

FYI ... i have tested 12V LEDs using a DeWalt corless battery pack from my cordless drill in the past, just to make sure they were the right color before i installed them.

Thats what ive been trying, blue to yellow, green to black, when I do that the rear signal blinks, but the front doesnt do anything at all. When I hook up the standard bulb light that I have it fires right up no problem

Sounds like bad leds.

Im gonna go with you having a bad LED. If you have a portable drill, take the battery out and match the + & - and see if it will light up. My guess is that it will not.
I just went out to the garage and tried that trick with the drill battery both LED signals lit right up...
